How do I get someone to stop smoking?
How can I tell someone to stop smoking? She knows all the facts (it gives you cancer, emphysema, etc.), but she is young, so she still has that invincible mentality. What can I tell her about smoking’s cosmetic effects that will make her consider quitting? (besides the usual stains your teeth and your hands)
Thanks!

I quit smoking, started gaining weight…any tips?
I quit smoking almost 2 weeks ago. I have done great with very little side effects, except I am always eating. I have gained about 3lbs since I quit, so somone suggested I chew on straws. I have done this all day and it seems to work, but it can’t be great for my teeth. Anyone have any other suggestions? I try not to eat candy because I really watch my sugar and caffine intake. Hope someone can help!
I quit smoking 2 weeks ago. I work out daily and watch what I eat even when I did smoke. But since I quit smoking i have gained 3lbs. I tried chewing gum, and it gets old after awhile. I really try and watch the sugar and calorie intake so candy is tough. I started chewing on straws, but someone said that is bad for your teeth? Does anyone have any other things that may work?
I quit smoking to run faster. Will dipping tobacoo affect running like smoking does?
I quit smoking 7 days ago and it is really hard. I smoked for 12 years and to aid me when i have a big craving, i bought some of these copenhagen pouch things. one of the reasons i quit is to be able to run faster. Will using these copenhagen pouch things affect my running like smoking does?
Congratulations on quitting! On the other hand, even though dip isn't as bad as smoking, it won't affect your lungs as much. It will still have a harm on your mouth which might lead to teeth loss and gum disease.
Probably not, but it will affect your health. It will stain your teeth even quicker than smoking. It makes your breath stink. You will have an increased risk of lip and mouth cancer. You may develop sores in your mouth. plus…it's really gross. I would never date or otherwise kiss a man that dips.
I know how hard it is, but try to hang in there! It only takes about 2 weeks for all of the nicotine to leave your body. Remember that the strong cravings always pass and you'll have them less often every day. You can do it!
Every time you have a craving, go for a run! It will improve your time and endurance and you will find smoking less appealing while you're breathing heavily. That's just one suggestion. anything that will take your mind off of smoking will help. Just remember that it *will* get easier. You just have to get through those first few months.
After that, never smoke a cigarette again! You may find a time where you think "It will be okay if I have a cigarette, since I'm not addicted anymore." DON'T DO IT! Your addiction will suck you right back in before you realize it! I know this from experience. Remind yourself of how hard it is to quit and don't risk putting yourself through that again. It's not worth it.

Your Questions About Quit Smoking Aids

Ruth asks…
Can over the counter quit smoking aids such as gum or patches be taken in conjunction with Chantix?

Werner Michael answers:
Nicotine supplements like gum and patches are not helpful when taking Chantix, which attaches to the nicotine receptors in the brain. The medication essentially tricks the brain into thinking you already have the nicotine in your system, which decreases the craving for smoking. So nicotine supplements generally won’t make a difference in how you feel and could cause some nausea. Most of my patients that have taken Chantix are able to quit after about 1 week and most are successful in quitting completely if they take it for the recommended 6 months. Good luck.

Carol asks…
Has anybody ever thought of this idea for a quit-smoking aid?
Here’s the idea, and I’m quite sure it has to be possible.
Make a mouthwash that coats the mouth and teeth with chemicals or some sort of substance that when met with cigarette smoke causes it to taste gag-level nasty. It’d be like the antabuse of quit smoking aids.

Werner Michael answers:
Your idea is creative, but as an ex-heavy smoker I’m afraid it probably wouldn’t work, except perhaps for people who are forced to use it. Antabuse is usually forced upon alcoholics; they don’t normally opt for it. Problem with that idea is unless somebody really wants to quit they won’t use it. And really wanting to quit is the most important part of quitting anyway, after that things like gum or the patch can take the edge off. Your idea won’t do anything to stop craving.

Quit smoking and my teeth hurt?
I quit smoking recently. (I had my last cigarette Friday night). I’ve been using Nicorette, a piece every few hours as I need it to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms. Tonight, I noticed that my bottom front teeth and gums HURT! It is similar to the feeling of having braces, when your teeth are moving. It is a sore, terrible feeling. I went for a checkup about a month ago…..My teeth and gums are very healthy (I have not had a cavity in 25 years! WHOO HOO!). Has anyone else dealt with this while smoking? What causes it and what should I do?

Your Questions About Quit Smoking Tips

Mary asks…
Do you have any quit smoking tips?
I am quitting smoking very soon, and I’m looking for any good tips or tricks that can help you quit or anything that helps you deal with cravings. Anything really! ![]()
Thanks for any responses!

Werner Michael answers:
If you have been a long term smoker who has smoked a pack or more a day, I really recommend the Patch (use the clear one… Less irritating).
Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and when a craving hits, start sipping on it. You can also chew on sugarless gum for a few moments… If at home, brush your teeth during a craving, start some housework, doodle on a pad of paper. You only have to get through 2 minutes… That is the longest a craving will be. Cravings lessen over time and get better with each day.
Keep your hands busy… Start up something new… Yoga, drawing, painting… Anything. A Rubics Cube puzzles, crosswords will also keep you busy… Physically and mentally.
You need to stay away from triggers for a month at least… If not 2 or 3 would be better. Alcohol, caffeine, bars, etc. As well you need to start new morning, after meal, stress, etc routine. Wash your face first thing in the morning, brush your teeth after a meal, go for a walk if something upsets you.
Lastly, go to this site:

How can i get a very effective Blog on Quit Smoking Tips?
I need a Blog that will give me a periodic update of articles related to Quit Smoking Tips

Werner Michael answers:
Honestly I’m unsure, but I know from past experiences, that if you don’t want to stop and feel like your being forced into stop smoking, your more likely to be stubborn and not stop.. I believe its a mind over matter situation… Ya gotta want to stop mentally and the rest will work…
I don’t want to stop, I stop in between cigs..lol

3. Shake it up and put the cap on
4. Bring it with you everywhere a
5. Smell it when you want to smoke
