With all the money smokers pay in taxes shouldn't we be given free stop smoking aids like gum or patches?

why do we have to pay this money and never get anything back from it.

The stop smoking clinics do indeed give free patches and whatever else that is required. Lots of individual sessions with a counsellor and group work support.

They assume all smokers will end up on Medicaid being treated for lung cancer. Apparently, they'd rather pay for that. Nice people, our government.
I do think you're onto something here, though. why do stop smoking aids cost so much more than smoking (esp. the drugs, which may actually work)? I think some of the tax dollars should subsidize this so smoking cessation devices are cheaper.
Then their gravy train from smokers would end.
I think with every pack of cigarettes there should be a little halitosis meter that you smokers can blow a breath into and it will read out how rancid your breath is.
Then maybe you smokers will get the hint—you stink!
The fly in this ointment is that no one will quit smoking unless they really want to quit. if they don't really want to quit everything else is wasted. if they really want to quit those aids are unnecessary.
In NYC they did, or maybe they still do have a free quit smoking program that does exactly that.
And unfortunately, you do get something back, the costs of lung cancer usually tops the maximum lifetime allowances of health insurance. So it goes to pay for care.
That sounds fair. Smokers cost the government a lot of money down the road in higher medicare costs, so I think it's a better use of my tax dollars to help someone quit
Nobody has to buy cigarettes.
All the tax money from tobacco, is for children's health care. So if YOU do not smoke, You are killing kids. but that is only, if you believe the kids are getting the money.
No because that is how you Liberals use smokers and drinkers and fast food eaters, it's called a "SIN TAX".You justify socking smokers with this tax o stop them from smoking, but truth be told is you want them to keep on smoking to keep taxing them. So why would Liberals (YOU) want to give FREE clinics to quit smoking when it is what they want others to do? It is because it has the word FREE in your statement, a word Liberals love to throw around and have the wealthiest Americans pay for it……………………
Actually, there are enough free programs with free stop smoking AIDS for just about every smoker in the Country
LOL!!!! Wait until the new gas taxes hit us because of the 0bama administration! they are wanting 15 cents in federal taxes and states new taxes will vary or the government will cut their government funds off for road repairs!
This already happens in many situations. but I guess the common assumption is if you can afford to smoke you can definitely afford to buy your own patches. It's a choice you can make.
