Why do we need wrist watches to show moon phases?

what is the point of having the moon phases shown on your watch?
HEY! everyone needs a wrist watch. maybe two. Collect them.
Moon phase watches have been popular since the "complication" (everything displayed on a watch is called a complication that doesn't tell the time) first came out on a pocket watch a few hundred years ago.
Go buy yourself a watch.
I have three wristwatches, four digital clocks, two analog clocks that need new batteries, I'm not counting the PC clock, and not one of them has moon phases on them. I've been using an online almanac since, spring, 1995. I've book marked it on 2 PC hard drives. I used to buy 6 to 8 wall calendars every year. this past year I got only two, and I have only hung one of them on the wall so far, and that one is weekly or monthly, your choice, and it does not have moon phases on it. Yes, If I manage to hang up the Thomas Kincaid wall calendar, it has Moon phases on it, but it uses BRITISH almanac data, even though it is printed in the USA.
Wrist watches don't need moon phases, but they are a small, not too expensive luxury if you have spare spending money. These days, I don't have much spare spending money.
It's still an important consideration for seafarers because it predicts the height of the tides,
and for aviators because it predicts night time visibility.
Other than that, it's a fancy status symbol.

In agrarian societies it was common to keep track of the phases of the Moon because the fuller the Moon the later and earlier useful work could be done.
These days, people use fancy cars and smartphones to show off their money.
Back then, people used fancy watches to do the same thing.
Technology changes, but people don't.
Its a gimmick to get someone to buy the watch. just like why people only wear clothes or shoes made by certain people. or why its so important to own an iPhone, a certain car and so on.
We don't need them.
You can look at the moon yourself if you want to know its phase.
So's ya know when ta plant your back 40 acres yo.
