Perfect example. It will create crime levels escalating to a peak in petty larceny. People that can’t kick the Habit will find ways to get their smokes. Stealing is common practice. Like drug users, they will do what ever it takes to get them. Others will quit and the government will loose millions in taxes. This money will come from you. On the other hand like smokers. When the taxes are raised to high and become unaffordable for most. We will all stop paying taxes.

Well if everyone quits, the money will probably just start coming out of rich people’s paychecks, since they are the rotten scum of the earth and deserve to pay for everything that poor people dont have. (note obvious sarcasm).

I love it when the asker composes his/her question that in plain sight, produces the answer. Smokers have been pushed around like trash for the past 16 years—and enough is enough!!
I’ve joined the "Tobacco Tea Party" with the avowed commitment to not only STOP SMOKING, but in process, BOYCOTT purchasing price gouged tobacco products.
If enough smokers—and I really DO believe enough of them will—follow suit, Big Tobacco profits will sharply nosedive and in about 8 months, they’ll see rapid depletion of their "backup funds". By year and a half time—-if not sooner—Big Tobacco will appear before Congress, asking for bailout billion$ ( their Plan C ). And I’m more than willing to stay clear of tobacco for as long as it takes; I’m focused on the FAILURE of this tax increase.
States who have D.C. representatives who VOTED FOR the 158% tobacco tax increase are organizing to RECALL their elected ones.
Pretty soon, C-SPAN is going to be more watched than HBO or Showtime!! Do stay tuned kids, this tax increase isn’t being taken so easily—and the fight coming is about to get good.
