Stop smoking with Hypnotherapy?
Hi I have booked a hypnotherapy session for helping me to quit smoking. I have smoked for years and quite heavily. But now I have a little girl of 2 and want to quit for health reasons and obviously to see my little girl grow up. I do want to stop and have done for a while but have ZERO willpower. Has anyone alse tried this, or can anyone give me some advice to increase my chances of quitting after my session.
Thanks
Nadie

Hi Nadie,
Firstly let me say that I have been a practicing Clinical Hypnotherapist for over thirty years and have treated literally thousands of smokers. I have had varied degrees of success. Some clients have stopped permanently yet others only for a few hours.
The bottom line is that no matter how much you convince yourself at a conscious level that you want to stop smoking, you will not stop UNLESS you want to at an Unconscious (subconscious) level.
As an example, I can give a thousand reasons why I should be rich and famous and justify it in many ways. But, if my Unconscious Mind wants me to remain poor, I WILL remain poor. Why, because your Unconscious Mind is far more powerful than your Conscious Mind.
So why do some clients stop permanently and others for a few hours? I call this the Spartacus Effect.
The Roman slave Spartacus rebelled against Rome and won many battles, but in the end the strength and power of Rome beat him in the final battle. So, your Conscious Mind may win battles, but not the war.
You must be sure that the Hypnotherapist gives you the correct treatment. Telling you under hypnosis that you will stop smoking and using aversion therapy (e.g. you will feel ill if you smoke) has only a very small chance of permanent success.
However, should the Hypnotherapist, get into your Unconscious Mind and ‘convince’ the Unconscious that you really should stop smoking, then your chances of permanent release from the slavery of smoking is much higher.
So, the answer to your question is a resounding ‘YES!’, hypnosis can help you stop, but only if you deep down really want to and ONLY if the therapist knows what he is doing.
Personally I have turned away clients because they really did not want to stop and were about to use me as an excuse to convince their spouses, friends and children that nothing could stop them. So don’t waste your money if that is the case.
Further advice is that you should give yourself a couple of weeks before the appointment and every day just sit quietly and ‘talk to yourself’ saying something like, “My children are more important than smoking cigarettes. ” and then imagine yourself in a couple of years from now playing with the children and feeling happy and healthy. Sounds corny? Maybe, but it does work as you will see when you smoke less cigarettes each day.
Good luck Nadie, I wish you well.
