  • Steve says:

taking one drug to stop another is stupid, just smoke less and less until you can quit

  • Mister Man says:

The only thing you need is the desire to quit. Oh, and don’t drink alcohol while you are trying to quit.

Zyban did it for me 11 years ago. I highly recommend it.

Welbutrin is actually a great smoking cessation aid, it makes cigarettes completely undesirable, but it should only be used for the main purpose of treating depression.

My girlfriend was prescribed the drug named Chantix. WORKED GREAT!

All the others that say, “determination”, or “your mind”, or “willpower” are full of crap. They’ve apprarently never had to deal with it.

There is no best medicine it all comes down to how bad do you want it. Every medicine will have some side effects, Anything will work just as well as anything else if you believe in it and truely want to quit. The power of the mind is an amazing thing.

  • Travis says:

There’s no such thing as a smoking “medicine” because that implies that smoking is a disease, and the medicine cures it.

There is only one way to quit smoking, and that is to QUIT. You’ve developed a dependency on nicotine and the only way to stop is sheer willpower. It won’t be easy, but if you want it bad enough, you can do it.

Nicotine lozenge, or gum. Worked for me, for three hellish months and still smoke-free after three years. And I was a 2-pack/day smoker for 22 years!

Now, I don’t even think about a cigarette. In fact, I saw a full pack of Marlboros(my old brand) in a parking lot and I promptly DISPOSED of them in the trash…no GUILT!

Medicines can’t help if you have no determination to quit smoking yourself. It can give you side-affects and sometimes (but not always) you can become addicted to meds. Go to counselling, that can help.

the bottom line is if you are not ready to quit you wont be able to. just cut back until you lose your desire.

Chew Nicorette- it curves the cravings with a little tingling sensation in the mouth, and it weans you off of the nicotine addiction. In-between chewing nicorette, eat cinnamon candies or mints, after eating floss with cinnamon gum, and if you can find it, use cinnamon toothpaste and cinnamon mouthwash. Keep yourself extremely busy during the day- throw yourself into work or school, and exercise like crazy. Drink plenty of water, and get a stress ball to keep your hands occupied when your cravings are crazy.
Also, you have to reward yourself with something big, like a 3-day weekend or a spa treatment, or something out of the norm if you finish the nicorette program. Then, remember to take it one day at a time, and stay strong-you are worth the good health.
