Is there a way to make myself want to quit smoking?

I quit for ten years after smoking for twelve years. I started again about a year ago and I want to quit. The problem is that I don’t have a strong desire. I remember how great I felt not smoking, I liked it a lot better. I still don’t really have a strong desire to stop. Any suggestions???

Look at pictures of actual human lungs that were removed from smokers on the Internet!

If you don’t want to stop, then you should not stop.

Figure up how much money that you spend on cigarettes each month then think of other things you could get using that money.

In my experience you have to want something to do it. If you don’t want to quit or you don’t have a strong desire to quit then you most likley won’t quit. I would maybe talk to people who have been smoking long term and see how it has changed their lives. That is what keeps me from smoking. Because I enjoy the action but I have never become fully hooked on it.

umm…why don’t you watch a bunch of documentaries about lung cancer: sometimes they show pictures of lungs with all the yucky tobacco stuff in them from cigarettes, and it is NOT pretty to see. It might want to make you stop. Good luck on that!

I did the same thing, but my addiction is food. But I digress…..check out this website. You had your lungs looking like the top one; you don’t want it to look like the middle one again, do you?

Are you a parent? Would the thought of not being alive to see your child’s wedding or for the birth of your first grandchild be motivation enough?

Just think about it.Quit and stay healthy or smoke and you will probably get cancer and die. This should be reason enough to make you want quit, unless you have a desire to die a slow agonizing death. >

if you are with your friends when you smoke have them hit you whenever you light up so when you think of smoking you think of pain. it takes a while but it works the best.

Make small, manageable life-style changes. Don’t hang around smokers. Get involved in a sport. Find something to do with your hands and mouth other than holding and smoking cigarettes. Learn how to really HATE cigarettes and everything to do with them: cost, smell etc.

I just decided to do it, 3 months ago, I said I can’t keep on doing this, I thought about what a lot above said, my daughter, the money I save by not buying them, the wellness you get, your skin looks better, my husband is a smoker too, and sometimes our clothes (even clean, taken out of the drawers or closet) would smell like smoke when I was out of the house, I thought, this is gross! and people are noticing this of course, I hated it, and even with air purifiers in the house, it wouldn’t get rid of it, I thought of my teeth too, started a whitening treatment, how can you do it if you still smoke? When you see the nicotine stains, it’s yucky! Try it: light up a cigarrete, smoke it, but every time you blow the smoke out, do it on a napkin or paper towel, you’ll see what’s getting on your teeth, and think of your longues too. By the way, I checked the link this girl mentioned, man those diseaded ones are like a horror movie!!!! QUIT QUIT QUIT, I’m great after 3 months

Absolutely. I just quit myself. Try that Smoke-Away ™ stuff they advertise on late night TV. I bought it at Walgreens. I also stayed REALLY busy, and took some time off work. Thats how I quit, but the final part is the motivation. For me, it was falling in love, and her not being a smoker. Thats something you have to find for yourself, but I will say the smoke-away made it comparitively easy. I quit cold turky on day 2. You just have to FULLY commit. Destroy ALL cigarettes in your house. Avoid ALL smokers until smelling them no longer causes your lungs to sieze up (thats why I took off work). Get rid of ALL lighters, including zippo’s, all matches, and all ashtrays. Clean your whole house including shampooing the carpets, do all your laundry, open all your windows, and empty a bottle of febreeze throughout the house. After all that, you should be through the worst parts of it, and you won’t need to STAY as busy. Try to sleep as much as possible, but know you’ll spend a lot of time tossing and turning. I did it, so anyone can.

Before taking one cigarrete aski your self why are you smoking this very special cigarrete, try to answer yourself not just tell cause you want to. Then think what you’d rather do insted of smoking this one cigarrete. If after this 2 steps you still want this cigarrete then smoke it, cause you choosed to. If not then let see what happends with the next cigarrete.
Sometimes I do feel like smoking a cigarrete, but most of the time is because I try to sympatise with someone or cause I dont feel comfortable, try to get yourself comfortable before taking a cigarrete.
