talk to your ob/gyn…..they know your health history…

You really need to talk to your doctor. When I was pregnant my doctor would prescribe me pills for my Bipolar disorder in my 2nd trimester because she didn’t feel there was much harm to the baby, but you are not me and every pregnancy is different. If anything call and see if you can speak with your doc over the phone after hours, most doctors will do that depending on the office. No one can really tell you whether to take the pills or not because we don’t know your medical history.

You were supposed to take them for the whole 3 months, not stop after you think you quit. My husband only took one month and thought he was ok…but he started up again(yeah not so happy about that one since it’s $100 bucks a month for that prescription).

Call you doctor and ask, I’m not sure about it being safe…but it’s a little late to be wanting to stop smoking…shouldn’t you have thought about that 35 weeks ago?

They’ll only prescribe you something if the benefits outweighs the risks…

Call your doctor’s office and talk to a nurse. They can give you an answer immediately.

If you have been smoking your whole pregnancy, you might want to wait until you have the baby. I have heard something like it stresses the baby if you have smoked that long and just up and quit. I was able to quit the day I found out I was preggo so I’m really not 100% sure though. I would do some more research if I were you. Also you could go to the website of the medicine and see if it is safe to take while pregnant.

I wouldn’t even touch it. My husband took it and stopped smoking 1 yr. ago but, he had really bad side effects from the medication. After seeing how it affected him, I can’t imagine how it would be safe for a preg. woman.

Smoking while you are pregnant is not cool! And if you are referring to CHANTIX, then no, you should not take it while you are pregnant.

  • Steve R says:

Do NOT take this drug while you are pregnant.

    Nonteratogenic effects
Varenicline succinate has been shown to have an adverse effect on the fetus in animal reproduction studies. Administration of varenicline succinate to pregnant rabbits resulted in reduced fetal weights at an oral dose of 30 mg/kg/day (50 times the human AUC at 1 mg BID); this reduction was not evident following treatment with 10 mg/kg/day (23 times the maximum recommended daily human exposure based on AUC). In addition, in the offspring of pregnant rats treated with varenicline succinate there were decreases in fertility and increases in auditory startle response at an oral dose of 15 mg/kg/day (36 times the maximum recommended human daily exposure based on AUC at 1 mg BID).

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. CHANTIX should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
