Yes, cold turkey is great – yet you might want to do it somewhat in a different way. People generally go cold turkey and then assume to go through a withdrawal period in which they need to use willpower to fight the constant urges to smoke again – and that’s exactly what happens. But this kind of mindset just sets you up for the potentially very long battle. The truth is that the genuine physical withdrawal indications are gone inside 3 days (most within just a day). The real dilemma is in your head – it’s hard because you assume it to be. It is advisable to be happy with your choice to quit and anticipate to feel good!
You just need to sort out your head BEFORE you quit. It’s all about your mindset. Be glad you don’t have to do that anymore – that you are getting rid of this filthy addiction. By no means feel you will miss it – that’s what makes it challenging. But instead see yourself as content, happy and proud that you’ve done it.
If you do this properly, you can override the withdrawal pangs completely, also it won’t bother you in any way to be in situations or with people where before you smoked. I know that from experience. When I quit my partner and lots of my associates were still smoking all around me – no problem at all.
Here’s what you have to do in very, very short:
1. Come to a decision that you get nothing out of smoking (it’s only the truth)
2. Pick a quit-date so you have some time to prepare mentally
3. Look forward to quitting (get excited about it)- very important!
4. Quit… easily
