!. Wait until you have a good cold, complete with cough and runny nose..
    2. Light up a menthol cigarette.

It will taste absolutely putrid.. You will never smoke again. That is just what I did.

First off, the whole cold thing..well, it didn’t work for me. I swear I almost coughed up a lung, but after about 2 hours, I wanted nicotine so bad I tried again. And again. I had bronchitis. Couldn’t breathe at all without smoking. I know, it’s terrible….ahh, addiction. But to answer your question, I would try Chantix. It has worked for my aunt and uncle, both of whom smoked for 20 years. My uncle, in particular, is a truck driver and was a chain smoker. All the hours he spent on the road got him up to more than 2 packs a day. But he quit within 1 week of starting Chantix. They say you can smoke during the first week, but after about 2 days he really didn’t want the cigs anymore. My aunt took about 3 weeks I think, but she quit also. This was several years ago, and neither of them have picked it back up. On the other hand, my parents (mom and stepdad) have both been using Chantix for over a month now, and if anything it has only decreased the amount they smoke. I firmly believe, after watching them, that this is because of their habits. They have NO will power when it comes to smoking. You know how part of the addiction is chemical and the other part is mental? It’s just a habit to be doing something with your hands… That part is getting to them. I’ve also noted that although at first it dramatically decreased the amount they were smoking, over time it quickly started to go back to normal, even with the Chantix. I’m guessing this either has to do with immunity build-up to the drug, since they didn’t stop smoking after the first week like they were supposed to. It will work, that’s been shown, but it’s not a miracle drug. You have to put forth the effort too. About the weight gain, well…I’m sure you’ve heard this before. Being a smoker puts you at much greater health risk than being overweight. Although being overweight isn’t good, it doesn’t even compare. Think of it this way….at least if you quit smoking, you’d be able to exercise more effieciently because you’d be able to BREATHE while doing it. Don’t worry about the weight, worry about kicking the habit. Something new I just learned? The lingering cigarette smoke, on your hair, body, or clothes can actually get to your baby. It’s not just a “smell”..there is actually chemicals and stuff in it that your baby will breathe in. It’s not as bad as straight second hand smoke, but there simply hasn’t been enough research to know how harmful it can be. But even if you smoke outside, handling your baby afterwards isn’t good. Also, I’ve tried the gum and the patch and they really did nothing for me.

actually there are a couple of reasons for the weight gain in a new quit.. first of all nicotine is a stimulant…so when you quit you are actually detoxing from a stimulant drug, your metabolism slows down a bit.. and secondly food just tastes better, when you have an improved sense of smell!!! you are right about the weight gain, most do, some don’t… the important thing to remember is simply this, unless one is morbidly obese, the risk of weight gain is much smaller than the risk of continued smoking.. from being involved with a number of people who have quit smoking.. most report a small gain the first year, then stabilizing to old weight.. in fact folks in support groups have a saying “the weight can wait”.. good luck on your quit

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!
