    MIND OVER MATTER!

  • Jenny says:

Well find something else that you like to eat, like gum, coffee, starburst. Opt for one of those instead of a cigerette. Those are better then cigerettes!

    i agree, its so hard.
If you have enough will power try to stop without any help.
But if you don’t try nicotine patches, nicotine gum , nicotine inhalers, herbal cigarettes ( no not weed lol ) , nicotine nasal spray, but with all these you need willpower too
    good luck!

I don’t think quitting is meant to be easy, I mean they make their money on the fact that you won’t quit. All non smokers are going to scream “COLD TURKEY!” Because they don’t understand how the addiction works or how it makes the smoker feel. From a smoker to another smoker, first you must ask yourself do you want to quit? Or is someone else making you feel like you should? If its not 100% you thatwants to quit then you won’t be able to stop. However if it is you that wants to quit then I would suggest cutting what you normally smoke in a day in half and do that for about a week or two and then cut that in half and so on and so on until you find yourself not smoking anymore. Its the best way to go about the cravings. If you just drop it cold trukey your body is going to be very unhappy with you. Its used to its drug and if you have smoked for any long period of time it depends on it almost to be there.

first you have to be confident that you want to quit. and you always have to say that in your mind. don’t get tempted to smoke. if you have any hidden cigarettes at home throw them out. and try to stay away from it. if you are about to buy cigarettes, think to yourself, “this is for my own good. and dint buy them” just walk away. after everyday you stop smoking cigarettes, stay proud. you should be proud of yourself for not smoking for one day. soon you’ll forget cigarettes even exist

Here’s how I quit in 2001 after smoking for more than 40 years:

    First you gotta wanna quit.

My habits are; That I leave the house for long periods of time. Several hours, perhaps all day. So I took to leaving my cigarettes at home. I noticed a correlation between coffee drink and cigarette smoking so I took to drinking coffee in cafe’s that didn’t allow smoking. To busy my hands I took up working crossword puzzles.

By-and-by I got on the patch program. This was when states were using the settlement money from the tobbacco companies to fund stop smoking programs. A week’s worth of patches would have cost me $45 but I got them through the program for $7.

I hung firm to the belief that smoking while wearing a patch would overload my system with so much nicotine that I’d have a heart attack so I was too scared to sneak a smoke while wearing a patch.

    Drink lots of water.

I noticed that a crave to smoke has a life span of about 40 seconds.

The crave is born, matures, ages and dies all inside of 40 seconds. Plenty of time to reach for a pack of cigarettes and light one up and take a puff. But if you don’t have any cigarettes to satisfy the crave, the will die.

I kept cigarettes handy for awhile. In a plastic bag in my rain gutter. If I really wanted to smoke a cigarette I had to get the ladder outta the garage and ect. You can see what a hassle it was to smoke.

After awhile I simply didn’t own a cigarette.

If I’m seperated from cigarettes, don’t have any. I can’t smoke.

    Good luck,

You just have to get it in your head that you are quitting, cold turkey is best…don’t replace one bad habit with another..

There’s tons of different methods for quitting out there BUT above all else one thing about quitting smoking is you must make a the decision to quit and mean it. This is the foundation of which you must make your commitment on. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you get the urge to light one never tell yourself having one will hurt because that is a lie. You are taking this on by yourself. IMHO there’s no support groups out than will make you not smoke. You are doing this for you so if you love yourself you’ll take this simple fact to heart and drop the habbit.

Hold true to the facts about ciggarrettes and use this as motivation to quit. You have to recognize ciggarrettes for what they are, a drug. They taste nasty, they smell nasty, everyone around you smells like it and so do you. They are too expensive and you’d save a ton of money if you didn’t. Changing your mind frame about quitting is the most important FIRST step into quitting.

You may want to pick up a box of smoker’s patches (which I recommend), gum, or the lozeges to help with the physical cravings. This will make it a ton easier to avoid the severe withdrawal that is associated with it like depression, irritation, sweats, headaches, loss of sleep, and body aches.Withdrawal will change how you think about quitting and you’ll relapse. It’s important that you keep to any method you chose because IT TAKES 21 DAYS TO BREAK A HABBIT. That’s a scientific fact. After that you’ll be ok to stop it. You may have the irriitability afterwords and all the other symptoms but you would have broken the mental habbit of the oral fixation and all the comes with smoking. So at the point it’ll will only take 24 hours for you to get threw the physical withdrawal.

Just like it takes 21 days to break a habbit it takes 21 days to form a habbit. So everytime you think about ciggarretes think of all the reasons you quit. Reject the thought of smoking completely. Try to avoid being around it as much as possible from there on out.

    hi Bobby..

wow your right, its a bear to quit.. but in the end doable.. i smoked for over 40 years and tried most every method known… patches, meds, cold turkey etc..

the thing that finally worked for mw was joining a support group.. together with other people, i found i could do what, i couldn’t do alone.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings, both locally, and online..

There isn’t any real easy way to quit smoking. Quitting smoking is probably one of the hardest things a smoker will do. The five basic keys for quitting smoking are preparation, support, learning new coping skills, medications and other quit smoking aids, and learning to stay smoke-free for good. The most successful quitters are those who put together a game plan with a specific goal in mind. Quiting might become a bit easier if you prepare for it.
