How do I get him to stop smoking?

I am 24, my b/f is 29. He has been smoking since he was 13, however he says he is going to quit, but that he isn’t ready. Two questions, how can I help him become motivated to without being pushy, and also, how long should I wait for him to quit. In other words, you can only say “I’m going to quit” for how long before it doesn’t become true anymore? What are some signs I should be looking for out of him in other words?

the only way he will quit is for himself. i wish i had a cigarette now. thank God i do not. i have been smoking for 30+ yrs. still hoping to stop. it is an addiction, no doubt. just pray for him. God bless and good luck.

stopping is really hard. i was a smoker for over 20 years and my husband and i decided to quit together. we went to our doctor and he prescribed chant ix. it is a little costly but it did work like it said it would. But before any thing or anyone can help you really need to want to stop
