Any tips to help stop smoking?
I’m going to visit my doctor tomorrow to get some help and advice on quitting. Does anyone have any ideas of what i can do with my time (and hands) when i would normally be smoking? Also i’m worried about putting on weight..are there any supplements i can take to help my metabolism as i’ve heard it slows down when you stop smoking? x
Yes….I was the same way….nervous busy hands….or bored hands….
What worked for me was cinnamon sticks. You can get them in the herbs & spices rack in the supermarket.
They are not overly powerful flavored….but have a nice mellow long lasting flavor. They are close to the same size and shape of a cigarette and they are pretty durable so you can play with them for a while before they break down on you.
Rather than worrying about taking more supplements, think of this. After you quit…like 3-4 months down the road, your lungs and body will be healthier again…so start going to the gym. Start doing a sport….you can be active again, and the few pounds you put on, will melt off pretty quickly.
Just work the cin-stix when you’re bored, don’t eat cuz you’re bored. Good luck, hope it helps.

get anti smoking candy and the next time you EVER put a cigarette to ur mouth itll taste like shit but the candy wares off by the way.but it helps
Good luck

I quit cold turkey 7 years ago! Yay me! I decided to quit and did. I would eat single m&m’s after dinner (maybe 3 or 4). I would suck on them, one at a time, slowly, to re-teach my mind that this was the end of my meal. I did that for like 6 months. That few of m&m’s didn’t cause weight gain. Sometimes I would substitute with tic tacs. I don’t think stopping smoking will slow your metabolism, but I’m not sure. Just start walking every time you get a craving.
PS The third week is the absolute worse! Be prepared. Don’t give in! Good luck!!!!

I smoked for like 10 years….failed at quitting a couple times…now I haven’t smoked in about 4 years.
There is a service run by the National Health in the UK where you can deal with someone who’s job it is to help people quit smoking – there should be one in your area. I don’t think your metabolism actually slows down, but sometimes people take to eating a bit more as a kind of fix instead of a cigarette. Take up knitting or something like that and find some new place to go where you’re not around your old smoking friends.
All the very best to you!

I recommend going to a help clinic as they give you free medicines or patches in the uk with no prescription charges. They also help if you have trouble or relapse. I didn’t need medicine and got on ok with patches but you will be fine. If you want to stop then you will, it is only a drug after all, try taking up something to do new walking or something. I was on 40 a day for 12 years and stopped on my 3 rd attempt. I put on 3 stone or 18kg over a year from stopping and I can’t lose it but I tried using a metabolism drug readily available which seemed to work quite well until I stopped using it!
Good luck!
