Why can't i quit smoking?

I'm a Christian and believe in tests from God, all He wants from me is to stop smoking, I can go for 24 hrs and be ok, but when things get really stressed for me I light up, i have prayed so hard for this, it is a desire of my heart, but I am in bondage to cigarettes and can't shake it. i have failed in my walk with God, as i have promised Him i would not smoke anymore, but i blew that today, why can i not pass a test and show God I love Him more than cig. Because of meds i take i can't use any of the stop smoking aids, i have to quit cold turkey. please can all of you that believe in God , go to HIm and ask Him to help me and to please forgive me for breaking a promise, which I will have to face Him one day and hear Him say it is better you were never alive than break a promise to me.

You and i are in the same boat, im trying to quit too, but school is so stressful and i have 2 jobs. I'll let you in on a little secret, asking god aint gonna do a thing. We have to fight a disease which we brought upon our selves.

@ Help me please, That is actually the best way to go, i tried to quit with hydrocodone and got f-cked twice as hard. Ive quit before using weed, but my dumbass started smoking again.

Because you continue to choose to smoke. Lighting up a cigarette is a voluntary action every time you do it. It's not like your heartbeat (involuntary action). You make the choice.

My father smoked for about 20 years, then just quit one day. Ultimately, it's your choice. You have to choose to stop.

Ignore my avatar, I've actually stopped smoking for a month now. It's easier for me because of a medical condition, I don't even get cravings.

I've noticed that drinking a lot of water helps. Cold water is best. I've been very stressed out these past few weeks and I know if I choose to smoke I can, but I choose not to. Hope this helps.

You need to help yourself, you can't expect prayer to make all your problems go away. Be proactive.

Here are some tips:

1. believe in yourself, believe you can quit.
2. Write down why you want to quit, the benefits of quitting. Read it daily.
3. ask family and friends to help you, to be supportive and non-judgemental. You'll probably get irritable when you withdraw so make sure they know what to expect.
4. Set a quit date. Write it down, plan for it.
5. Talk to your doctor, get support and guidance.
6. Begin an exercise program. Exercise relieves stress and helps your body recover from the damage from cigarettes. Start with short walks once or twice a day.
7. do some deep breathing every day 3-5 mins.
8. cut back on cigarettes gradually or cold turkey, which ever works for you.
9. find another smoker who is trying to quit and help each other.
10. Drink lots of water.
11. Learn what triggers your desire for a cigarette.
12. find something to hold in your hand and mouth to replace a cigarette.

I feel your pain and will pray for you.

I just quit too, I'm catholic and decided to give up cigs for lent. so far so good, I'm on day 8 and cravings haven't been too bad. Giving it up as a sacrifice for God has made it a lot easier then when I try on my own.

God Bless

Because nicotine is physically addictive. You need more than prayer to stop. You need willpower and, perhaps, a patch or something.

It is an addiction and you need help.

I have been told that it is harder to get out of smoking cigarettes than it is get clean of marijuana use

Just quit.

It'll be hard at first, but after a couple of months you'll probably be disgusted by just the smell of someone else's cigarettes.

When you're craving, google lung cancer images.

Peter blew it when he denied Christ 3 times. I know quitting smoking would be better for you if you did but Just keep believing in Jesus. his grace is what saves you. Quitting smoking is not going to save you.

Chemical addictions are not something you can easily will away, unfortunately. I would suggest avoiding buying them in the first place so as to not tempt yourself later when you are at home, eating out, etc.

hahaha!!!

pray and you will automatically quit smoking

hahaha!!!

one thing god can't do is stop people from smoking

Replace it with weed. Problem solved :) cancer sticks < god's all natural gift to his children

You don't really really really WANT to quit.

smoker
tsk..

tsk..

I agree with the first guy. It's because you love cock.

If I told you god gave us cigarettes to smoke so that we would get to heaven sooner, would you keep smoking?

You are not finished yet. when you are finished, it will take no effort……..

change your prayers to "oh fairy in the clouds take away my habit with your magical harry potter spells. AMEN"

i will pray for you, girl! best of luck! xoxo~jesse

Tomorrow will be my 4 month anniversary of quitting cigarettes. I used the patches. they work . my husband had control of my cigarettes.I used each step. From 21 mg all the way down to 7 mg . I bought the generic ones at Walgreens and WalmartEach box comes with 14 patches 2 weeks for each box and moved down to the next step. whenever I needed a cigarette I would rub the patch. I finally got to the 7mg and after 3 days I knew I no longer needed the patch. I bought little round bandaids. after about 3 days of the bandaids I no longer needed anything. Try the patches and continue to pray and I will also pray for you. God Bless

look up and i know this sounds weird but e-smoking i bought a kit a titan 510 back in early november as a early Christmas gift to myself i learned to replace smoking with vaping and then on Jan 12th for the new year quit for good haven't had a puff of either since. I know how hard it is. I went from pack a day for over 10 years to none in a little over 2 months. things take time and you can do what ever you put your mind too. I found it easier to replace one habit with a more healthier habit of the same genre. and quiting vaping is WAY easier.

Other ppl that share your trouble

Your conscience is telling you to stop, but your head is going crazy. perhaps fast because while fasting it gives you more time to focus on God and build that relationship that you so desire to have with Him. Get in The Word and in prayer more too, and when the thought arises claim some Bible verses over your life.

Hi there. I quit smoking a little over a year ago after almost 30 years. It took a couple of times to totally quit. The biggest problem is that I really didn't want to quit. Sure it is bondage and I knew it was wrong but I really didn't want to quit. Truth is that I really like bondage. I like being addicted to things. Once I understood that then quitting is much easier. I want to love Jesus and I want to love GOD but the truth is I really don't even come close to loving them or doing what they ask of us. Once you can understand that then you are well on your way to loving GOD with your heart and not your mind. I am a wretched self serving sinner that loves himself more then anything in the world or that is of GOD. however, my spirit longs for a restored relationship with my creator and in order to have that I need to do what I know is right. That is, Crucify the flesh. Every stinking day. Crucify the flesh. as I do this over and over, things like smoking start to loose their hold on me or more truthfully, I loose my grip on them. It's not the cigarettes that keep you in their grip. It's you. It's going to be hard to quit. Life is hard. Get you some nicotine replacement to deal with the physical addiction. It's a lot better then smoking. then crucify the flesh "DAILY". You only have to go through it once if you do it right. It is well worth it. Not living for the next cigarette is a wonderful indescribable freedom. You can do it. It only seems like you can't. Just about everyone who really wants to quit eventually does. The trick is to really want to quit.

May the LORD richly bless you!

The human condition, yeah. were all in these "material" things, together. The mushroom said to me once, seeking or praying to one another or to a higher power, you are responsible for each task into this life. how unlikely is your existence? Probabilities wouldn't deliver you to this experience of smoking cigarettes. I wouldn't blame it on anyone. It is what culture delivers to us, stress, endless distractions, gory mass murderers, excitements, the aliens coming, star-flight, etc. sooner or later, sh*t is going to hit the fan. do not despair, when your humbleness is ready, it will happen on its own.

Your problem is the stress that come into your life. Take away the stress and you will over come you smoking problem. Pray and ask the lord to help you with your stress that causes you to smoke. Remember do not let little thing bother you this will help you to learn patience. It will help you over come your stress. Remember that when we quiet smoking it is easy to get angered with ever thing around us so remember to soften your heart relax don’t let small things bother you. It is a learning experience for everyone that want to quit smoking I went thru this my self .I learned the hard way, know one was there to help me learn to what I have written down here, I had to figure it out for my self. God bless everyone and may the lord help you to over come your challenges in life .

it is very hard to quit. I also want to quit. But after 1 day, I'm nuts.
plus if I don't get my coffee and cigs in the morning, it just sucks.
I have quit before tho. I know that each day, hard as it is, DOES get easier with each passing day. If you put on a patch, it helps. the gum does too. I think you have to really really want to quit. I enjoy it too much. God will help you when you really want to quit, until then his hands are tied. But when you decide, he will give you grace for each day and get you through, one day at a time. Remember each day, gets easier if you can just get through 3 days without smoking, as those are the worst, so use patches, use the gum, or buy regular chewing gum and get some candy like those red and white mints. when I quit, it seems all I do is sleep. Whatever gets you through the days. Remember you have to be so fed up with smoking you want to quit and you decide firmly that your gona do it, that's the prayer and the resolution that God will step and help you after that. do it for yourself, not God. Good luck.
