Berthoud to consider more pot dispensaries, 3/8/2011 – Reporter-Herald, Loveland, Colo.
”The most effective method to teach kids not to do drugs is abstinence. Parents and teachers have to teach by example. it has worked before and can work again but the message must be clear and consistent.” When has it ever worked?
to those who say “There is nothing medicinal about pot.” Medical and scientific organizations based in the United States that support access to therapeutic cannabis include: the American Academy of Family Physicians (1989, 1995); American Academy of HIV Medicine (2003); American College of Physicians (2008); American Medical Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs (2001); American Medical Students Association (1993); American Nurses Association (2003); American Preventive Medical Association (1997); American Public Health Association (1995); Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (1999); Federation of American Scientists (1994); HIV Medicine Association (2006); Institute of Medicine (1982 & 1999); Kaiser Permanete (1997); Lymphoma Foundation of America (1997); National Association for Public Health Policy (1998); National Nurses Society on Addictions (1995); and Physicians Association for AIDS Care. the harmful effects of the Ridilin, Vicodin, and Oxy-whatever is death. Death is a lot worse then any of the effects that the thing I just read mentioned. still, no deaths or overdoses have ever, in the history of time, have been linked to marijuana. I grew up in Loveland, and long before the option of medicinal marijuana was available, myself and hundreds of other Loveland kids were out looking for and smoking pot. our biggest fear was getting caught. My point is, kids are gonna find weed whether the parents like it or not. is it better if they get it from some thug who slings shwag from a Mexican drug cartel? And parents, your kids trade their Ridilin for weed.
to those who think pot isn’t addictive or harmful: Look at how hostile people become when they think their supply is being threatened or cut-off. the “medical” marijuana craze is a farce, endorsed by a few unethical doctors that found a new way to get rich quick. this is at the expense of parents, effecting their ability to be good parents, young children being neglected (remember the 1st baby born in Loveland 2010?) and students who’s ambition and ability to be good students has been greatly impaired. We good citizens must continue to say we’ve had enough of watching our community and values go down the tubes at the hands of outside schemers. there is nothing medicinal about pot. Medical facts about the harmful effects of marijuana: the harmful effects of marijuana on the Brain and Central Nervous system are: Impaired thinking, mood, memory, and coordination + Marijuana (THC) is an extremely powerful intoxicant. its affects alter and damage brain cells that control thinking, emotion, pleasure, coordination, mood, and memory. the pituitary gland is also damaged which regulates hunger, thirst, blood pressure, sexual behavior, and the release of sex hormones. + Clogged synapses, brain damage, and addiction + Marijuana accumulates in the microscopic spaces between nerve cells in the brain called “synapses.” this clogging interferes by slowing and impairing the transfer of critical information. + Long term use causes the brain to stop production of brain chemicals necessary to “feel good” – a negative feedback condition. this causes the user to become chemically addicted to marijuana. o the harmful effects of marijuana on the Heart + Speeds up heartbeat as much as 50%, increases blood pressure, and poses great risk to those with hypertension and heart disease. the harmful effects of marijuana on the Endocrine System + Marijuana damages the network of glands, organs, and hormones involved in growth and development, energy levels, and reproduction. Organs and glands affected: # pituitary gland # thyroid gland # stomach # duodenum # pancreas # adrenal glands # testis the harmful effects of marijuana on the Reproductive system for males and females Marijuana use can decrease and degenerate sperm, sperm count, movement, and cause lowered sex drive. Females can have egg damage, suppression of ovulation, disrupt menstrual cycles, and cause alteration of hormone levels. Regular use during pregnancy can lower birth weight and cause abnormalities similar to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (small head, irritability, poor growth and development). can destroy the number of chromosomes, resulting in cell abnormalities and impaired function. other affects on the central nervous system distortions of perceptions, thinking, and reality Difficulty in forming concepts and thoughts + Poor concentration + Mental confusion + Loss of motivation + Wide mood swings + Aggression and hostility + Depression, anxiety, and paranoia the harmful effects of marijuana on the Eyes Sleepy looking, bloodshot eyes with dilated pupils. the harmful effects of marijuana on the Throat Irritates membranes of the esophagus and increases chance of developing cancer of larynx and esophagus. the harmful effects of marijuana on the Lungs Significant damage and destruction of the air sacs of the lungs, reducing the lungs ability to bring oxygen and remove carbon dioxide – Emphysema. Causes bronchial tubes to be inflamed, thickened, and to produce more mucus which results in narrowing of the air passages – Chronic Bronchitis. Marijuana smoke has twice as much “tar” as cigarette smoke and significantly increases chance of lung cancer, inflammation, and infection.
Berthoud did pass this tonight. however I wouldn’t count on them moving any more in. They are happy with the one and have made it all but impossible for any more to come in. Don’t forget, there is still a state moritorium and HB 1043 is getting ready to pass an additional state moritorium until 2012! the Loveland and Windsor dispensaries won’t have the option to reopen elsewhere with the state moritorium.
Drug pushers. Riiiiiiht. Number of people that die in the U.S. every year from prescription drugs – 250,000. Number of people that die in the U.S. every year from cannabis – 0. Think outside the fox (or just think).
Loveland’s loss will be Berthoud’s gain if they approve more dispensaries. Marijuana prohibition has done far more harm than good; possibly more harm than alcohol prohibition did in the 20th century. And how did that work out? Heavy taxation (and education about any of its potentially harmful effects) would have been a much better strategy and I wish the country would get around to that. it eventually will, as science will eventually outweigh ideology. still, I’m not advocating its use, especially for recreation. there are healthier ways to relax, and the populace is already too dopey in my opinion.
KEEP MARIJUANA ILLEGAL !!! Berthoud should have more integrity. I urge all to vote out anyone that supports these drug pushers.
Applause to Berthoud for standing by the Colorado Constitution and the small business owners of Northern Colorado.
what can you say. Ignorance won in Loveland. Let’s hope the people of Berthoud are more enlightened. Consider this. You can die from taking just five aspirin. no one has ever died from an overdose of cannabis. ~2200 people die from alcohol poisoning in this country every year. Cannabis? zero. Make it legal for everyone and let the police go after real criminals, like crooked CEOs and politicians.
