What is the easiest way to quit smoking?

I know there is no easy way, but what would you say would be the least difficult? What would reduce cravings the most? This question would be best answered by those who have had experience quitting smoking or those that have done research on it. Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.

My mother used the patch 3 different times and took the gum. The problem is, is that you gotta be serious about it. My mom said it’s not easy to be a quitter and she went back and still smokes. She has heart probs now and she always says I will quit but she said it’s not easy. My dad quit cold turkey a few years ago and he still doesn’t smoke. He was always shaking. I quit smoking too. I really wanted smokes when I was done, but it’s hard.

    (1) First you need your mind setting to quit smoking.

    (2) If you are a chain smoker then if it is difficult to quit smoking in a day, it will take time.

    (3) The easiest way to quit smoking is not to buy cigarettes.

Uh… I never smoked but a friend of mine used to.He told me that chewing gum helped him alot in quitting smoking.Whenever he desired to smoke he would simply put the gum in his mouth and chew it as long as he could.Slowly this reduced his cravings to smoke but now he is a chewing gum addict!!!

My husband tried quitting several times. He finally was able to quit by using a patch, chewing regular gum, and he used a monetary incentive. Each day, he took the cash equivalent of what he would have spent on cigarettes, and put that money in a container (it was a large plastic food container). Every now and then he’d take that money out, count it, fondle it, and iron the creased bills. Yes, he’d iron money! He said that handling that money made the savings far more real to him. The patch and the gum helped relieve the cravings for him, and the money gave him concrete proof that he was making progress and hope for the future. He also tried to avoid “triggers”, that is, he was in the habit of smoking while watching TV in a particular chair, so he sat in a different chair, one that he had never smoked in, so he didn’t feel like something was missing.

There is no easy way, but I do know some people who used different methods. My two friends quit by using Chantix. They tried the Nicorette gum, the patches, you name it, but Chantix did it for them. I tried the Chantix myself but it made me psychotic, so it’s not for everyone.

Another way is the electronic cigarette. I am a hard core chain smoker (with no tobacco related health problems that I’m aware of) for decades and NOTHING seemed to work on me. The patch might as well have been a Band-Aid. Like I said, the Chantix made me psychotic and the Zyban which is just the antidepressant Welbutrin marketed under a different name made me feel like I was going to faint, puke, or have an out-of-body experience. For some people it worked. For others, the gum worked. What seems to be working for me is the e-cig. I have cut down smoking tobacco from 6 cartons a month to perhaps 1 carton and because sucking on that fake cigarette and blowing out vapor makes me feel ridiculous, I’m about ready to ditch that, too, just as soon as I stop cheating and sneaking in a real cigarette every once in awhile. It’s not going to be long, since the tobacco is starting to taste really nasty to me. E-cigs are cheaper than smoking regular tobacco, however, and is really a good way to wean yourself away from the habit slowly and surprisingly painlessly. Everyone is different. What works for one does not work for the other. Some people found hypnsosis to have worked. I know it did for me ONCE and I quit for 2 years and very painlessly. It was like I never smoked a day in my life after three sessions. I would have gone back, but I moved cross country and I don’t know what that hypnotist had, because I have tried others out there, but it didn’t work.

Try experimenting. I’m sure you will find something that will work for you.

I’m 54, and smoked since I was 16. You do the math. I’ve been smoke free since the first of Feb this year, so 3 months.

My doc gave me the patches and gum, but I didn’t like the ‘patch’ (or crutch, as I called it)

I was a short ass with people for about a week, but then I was fine. I just used willpower. And I stayed away from places that smokers congregate, ALWAYS had sugarless gum in my mouth, and told myself that I was doing more good to my body overall…….

3 months later, I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad that I quit. It’s so very worth it…………

    Best to ya,

    Christopher K.

I’ve been using electric cigarettes for a few months and they have helped my hubby and I in our quest to quit. It has really helped, especially with the hand to mouth addiction.

It was very easy to cut back, within a week we went from a pack a day to a 3-5 cigs a day. The hard part was choosing to stop the regular cigs completely. I looked at it like this, I am only smoking a few a day anyway, I might as well just not buy another pack. Now I can’t even stand the smell of a real cigarette.

Although, I am still addicted to nicotine, I have been cutting my nicotine levels back in steps (Like you would with the patch). I am to the point now I use 2 different carts Low and 0 nicotine. I know there is controversy surrounding them, but to me anything has to be better then the 4000+ chemicals I was inhaling.

The upfront cost was about the same as the patch or gum. It also has saved me money and because it is refillable, It costs me between $30-$35 a month to smoke (no month isn’t a typo).

I tried everything, I even paid $500 to get shots and NOTHING worked, except ecigs.

I bought mine from Brian at Epic-Vapor, he is WONDERFUL. I asked a million questions and he was so patient with me. He ships fast and his liquids are fantastic. One of my favorites is Banana Cream.

I agree with Jess, try Electric Cigarettes:

You will get the nicotine you crave without all the bad stuff in cigarettes and you don’t smell like smoke.

Technically it is not a quit smoking aid, BUT people have successfully used it to quit: First they switch to the ecig, after a few weeks, they cut back the nicotine level, after a few weeks more they cut back again. Basically they use it in steps, like you do with the patch or gum. I’m told it helps more though, because it also takes care of your physical addiction of wanting to put something in your mouth.

I use an ecig as an alternative smoking. I don’t regret switching and I wouldn’t ever go back. I have also had positive experiences with Epic-Vapor.
