Ive tried everything from gum to patches, to pure will power and nothing worked until I started taking Chantix. It worked great I smoked for 13 yrs and now Ive been smoke free for 2 months with no cravings. Its expensive if you dont have ins but they have programs to help if your low income. I filled out a form mailed in my rx and my tax return and I got them for free.

Best way is mental. It sounds cliche’ but it is true and doesn’t replace the addiction with a pill or gum or whatever.

If being around it causes urges, limit your exposure. Try normal gum if from oarl fixation. Another angle could be to save the money. Pretend you’re buying a pack and put the money in a can or something and at the begining of the month celebrate by buying yourself something nice. Or save longer for something you’ve been wanting for some time. You’ll be surprized how fast the money accumulates.

For me, the hardest part is relapse. It seems I can go forever with out smoking untill I am with certain people or in a certain situation. Try replacing the habit with another during these times to remove the smokes from the muscle memory.

-Drink a lot of liquids, especially water. Try herbal teas or fruit juices. Limit coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol – they can increase your urge to smoke.
-Avoid sugar and fatty food. Try low-calorie foods for snacking – carrots and other vegetables, sugarless gum, air-popped popcorn, or low-fat cottage cheese. Don’t skip meals.
-Exercise regularly and moderately. Regular exercise helps. Joining an exercise group provides a healthy activity and a new routine.
-Get more sleep. Try to go to sleep earlier and get more rest.
-Take deep breaths. Distract yourself. When cravings hit, do something else immediately, such as talking to someone, getting busy with a task, or taking deep breaths.
-Change your habits. Use a different route to work, eat breakfast in a different place, or get up from the table right away after eating.
-Do something to reduce your stress. Take a hot shower, read a book, or exercise.
    Psychological Needs
-Remind yourself every day why you are quitting.
-Avoid places you connect with smoking.
    -Listen to relaxing music.
    -Watch a funny movie.
-Rely on your friends, family, and support group for help.
A-void alcohol. It lowers your chances for success.

I smoke for 16 years and I haven’t smoked in 28 days. The thing that worked finally wanted to quit. All the other times I tried I was quitting because I was supposed to not becuase I wanted to. My last interaction with a cigarette was buying a pack, smoking 1 and then saying “screw this” and throwing the pack away. I haven’t smoked since and it’s been incredibly easy to quit. I just don’t smoke because I really dont want to. One of my last motivations was reading about lung cancer diagnosis. If you get one, you’ve got about 6 months to live. Can you imaginge that news? Once diagnosed you’ve got 6 months, likely less, and then you’re dead. Think about that.

I must say, I tried Chantix a year or so ago and it helped a lot. Not enough but it helped.

Have you tried electronic cigarettes. They mimic real smoking and allow you to enjoy the habits you are accustomed to when smoking, like blowing smoke.

You can get cartridges in many nicotine strengths including zero. About every two months or so I dropped down a strength and it really worked for me as I could still go have a cigarette with friends and enjoy the social side of it and not make my friends feel guilty for smoking.

    I got it from here:

Good luck going smoke free, I hope the information helps.

I quit smoking after getting some tips from a friend. I recently wrote an article at ehow on how to quit. You can check out the article here…
    http://www.ehow.com/how_5713872_quit-smoking-breaking-habit.html

It’s about breaking the habit before you quit, which makes it a lot easier on you when you do decide to quit. The tips that I got from my friend about breaking the habit is the only reason why I was so successful. I know that many people are trying to quit right now and I wanted to do my best to help. I hope that my article helps you to quit. Best of luck.

Simply don’t keep a lighter or cigarette with you.
You will leave it slowly. Also, don’t think much about it.

President Clinton’s administration removed the laws established after the depression to protect us from the abuses of immoral and highly leveraged investment vehicles like derivatives and credit default swaps that come with huge counterparty risk. Bush administration didn’t have the guts to stop it instead wanting to bask in a perception of sound economics.
