What is the BEST way to Quit Smoking- I need to help my Mom!!!?

My mom has been smoking forever, and she has the most stressful situation, she has a daycare. But she don’t smoke with the kids there. However, she has the beginnings of Emphysema & they found a spot on her lung (I hope to God it is nothing-please pray for her)- but she needs to quit smoking RIGHT AWAY. Please tell me the best way to advise her to quit smoking.

I’ll pray she is okay. Smoking is a very dangerous thing to do to yourself, but know that she no longer has control the cigarrettes do. What she needs is to talk to her doctor about prescription pills that could help her. There are some anti-depressants that have been shown to reduce cravings. It is going to be a long hard process but stick with her and support her. GOOD LUCK to you both!! : )

well that’s sad. you know quitting smoking is for some people is harder then others
I suggest you write a letter to you mom that is in the form of a
eulogy the speech a person gives at a funeral service about the dead person . how much they miss them what they were like
that wont be an easy letter to write but it will be much easier i think to write it while your mother is alive .
i would include in it that you attempted to get her to quit but that
as hard as it is too say she just didnt love you enough to do that.
That is not right the part about the love as an addiction is something that affects the persons thoughts about the risks of not quitting. however for the purpose of this I would write that.
I would make this as real as if she had died. then of coarse
read it to her or mail it by real mail to her
if she does quit smoking understand that she may be like a lunatic for awhile yelling and so on . just turn the other cheek when she does that .
you may also list off in another letter all the different things people do to help them quit . the hospitails or cancer organization and so on would have all the pamlets and you could just let her have some of each kind . include in there the one about this drug called zyban . it is a prescription drug and it helps many people.
after that besides just trying keep the stress level lower at home for her you cant do anything more but pray she quits.
this is a real bang on the head route but given your moms condition i would go right to the bang on the way right off
i will pray for both of you .

i quit smoking by taking chantix. its only by presciption though. before that, i had tried everything else incuding the gum, patch, and all that stuff. but chantix is the only one that helped me to quit with no withdrawal symtoms. also, i had been smoking for 10 yrs.

For me¸ it was patches over medication (zyban or chantix)

Laser therapy is reported to be efficient, too : http://index-go.com/health_fitness_medical_medicines/quit-smoking-laser-therapy-method-treatment.asp

First of all, you can’t help her unless she wants to be helped. If she does you can help her by being there for her and help her find other ways to deal with her stress. Chantix is a new drug that can be obtained with a prescription; however, insurance doesn’t pay for it and I think it’s like $100/month. People who have used it say it is worth it and it kills your cravings for nicotine. It could take up to 6 months to completely quit, but it sound like a good way to do it. Hope this helps.
