You stave off craving by eating something tasty. Chocolate is good. If that’s not enough, go to your GP and ask him/her to recommend some medication that will ease quitting. As far as I know some of them contain nicotine, and they’ll diminish the craving.

Just keep trying and you’ll be free from that junk. I wish you good luck.

When I quit smoking I worked for Starbucks, and I carried one of their iced cups with water in it (and the straw) around for 2 months. So I replaced the cigarette with water.

My Husband chewed the nicorette fruit gum. The trick with that is to chew just half of the piece for a few minutes then put it back in the wrapper or in the side of your mouth. Only chew as a last resort. Your goal should be to get rid of the bad and replace it with the good.

You control your will power, it does not control you. The first 3 days are the worst. Whenever I see someone smoking now, I think “Yeah keep smoking, Survival of the Fittest!”
    Good Luck.

Nicotine is a powerful addictive agent and you are going to have withdrawal symptoms that you will have to bear. Really, time is the only way you can get over the cravings. They lessen significantly in 3 or 4 days and it gets much easier.
One of the most helpful things you can do to not get back into smoking is to change you behavior by not being in places or situations where you always smoked. There is the physiological addiction and the habit of smoking. Get both under control and your chances are much better. One thing that helped me was changing my self image from a smoker to a different person who did not smoke.
    Good luck!
