I quit last Nov with Chantix.

She’s likely to have strange to awful dreams, sweats, anxiety, cravings, some initial weight gain, uncomfortable in her own skin,; these are actually less intense than quitting cold turkey.

It’s hard to kick, cigarettes were more annoying to quit for me than alcohol 8 years ago. I still crave a cigarette now and then but not like the first three months when I felt like I gave up my best friend ever. And sometimes I was like, “Why in the hell did I give up cigarettes?” and the very next day I would feel so proud that I had. Emotions go crazy for the first 6 months to a year I’m told.

I had to quit drinking coffee in the morning and change my morning routine. I always had a smoke right after eating, so I got my hands busy doing dishes or taking a shower, or drinking a full glass of water instead. I colored with color pencils during most of my free time at home.

Well, as a smoker that has been unsuccessful in quitting, I’ll tell you that it’s very very hard. She might get upset and angry. She might cry or snap here and there. Her PMS could be more stressful. She may eat a lot more and crave sweet and/or salty foods. She may gain 5-10lbs.

The best thing you can do is be there. No matter how nasty, sad or upset she is, don’t tell her it’s ok to smoke just one if she needs it. Hold her or leave her alone when she needs it. Listen if she needs to vent. If she freaks, ignore it. Keep her hands and mind busy. Don’t give her time to fidget. Play games, make things, check out the mall or another shopping center that is indoors and smoke-free.

Buy her a huge package of her favorite gum or hard candy. It will help her with the physical part of the addiction. Wrap it up and get her a card. Be thoughtful. She will know that you are trying to help. To be honest, I can get over the withdrawal, but the fidgeting during withdrawal is what gets me. The medication should help with the addiction part, making the physical habit a lot easier to break.

As far as I understand, this medicine blocks the receptors that absorb nicotine. You still smoke for the first week or so, and then you have less and less a need for nicotine. Withdrawal symptoms are supposed to be a lot easier to handle. However, the other part is what to do with your hands and such after you no longer crave nicotine.

Good luck. If the Chantix works well, let me know. I’ve been thinking about trying that for a couple years now. I’m just not sure if it’s worth the money. Nothing else has worked :(

Hi there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any trouble with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no data backup. Do you have any methods to protect against hackers?
