My friend is trying to quit smoking, is it really that difficult?

As a non smoker myself is there something I should understand about the difficulties involved, and how can I help?

  • Paul B says:

    Motivation.

For a start, he/she should stop smoking in the house or at work, and make it as inconvenient as possible to reach for a cigarette.

Then some things to think about. NEVER smoke in front of children (force of example), or older people or pregnant women (poisonous effects of second-hand smoke).

Then some positive rewards. Like putting the money saved in a piggy bank, and at the end of the month splitting it between savings, and a personal treat.

In some places, there is medical help available as well.

Finally, keep at it. Lots of people stop several times, a little longer reach time, and finally quit altogether.

    Good luck.
