My boyfriend wants to quit smoking, how do I help?
My boyfriend is a lifelong smoker, and a lifelong asthma sufferer. He recently told me he wants to quit, but he doesn’t have very much faith in himself. How can I help him along the way, and encourage him to stick through and quit for good?

No kissing, cuddling, or sleeping around if he doesn’t quit permanently. Put him on 7 month trial. Platonic for 7 months.
just tell him your proud of him for making this decision and you would help him any way you can help maybe you just need to ask him what you should do for him or just keep on checking up on him that he wont buy cigarettes and if he does throw them away and tell him its for his own good and just keep on telling him im proud of you for not smoking this long…etc… which that would make him feel good inside and would have more courage, confidence on not doing it know more cuz some people do need to be pushed around in these kinds of situation cuz later on they will be thanking you
Get him a care package to encourage him. Tic Tacs, sunflower seeds, lollipops and gum are good.
Give him reward coupons for each milestone. He gets to cash them in when he reaches it. For example:
one week – dinner at his favorite restaurant
one month – a movie
one year – teeth bleaching
Of course you decide the reward
Encourage going to places where smoking is prohibited.
Do not allow him to smoke in the house.
Get him to download a quitmeter on his computer. I got mine from silkquit.org. This is mine: I have quit smoking Two years, two months, two weeks, six days, 14 hours, 29 minutes and 47 seconds. 16232 cigarettes not smoked, saving $3,084.09. Life saved: 8 weeks, 8 hours, 40 minutes. If he smokes, make him reset it.
Oh…get him to set a quit date then tell all of his friends. This way he will look like a chump if he starts back. It has to be a realistic quit date. I set mine one month ahead and cut back in preparation.
Just some ideas! You are very nice to support him…he will need it!
I think your boyfriend should have some very busy activities. In this case, it will help him to forget what he used to do.
