Is this really a way to quit smoking?
My husband said there is a procedure that helps you quit smoking by zapping you behind the ear. I have never heard of this before so I’m wondering if this is true. If it is, does anyone know what it’s called and where I would find more information about it?
I’ve tried adding up the cost (which is a lot) and know what a dumbass I am for spending the money and how harmful it is. Stress always triggers my need for a cigarette. I really don’t know what it would take for me to actually stop.

There’s an even better way to quit. Just stop, and deal with the withdrawal urges in a sensible way.
Here’s the deal: when you are hungry, your body tells you to eat. It is a real signal which you can *trust*, because it has always been that way, even since before you can remember (as an infant).
When you feel like you want a cigarette, your body also tells you. The difference is, this urge is fake (non-essential) and *not trustworthy*, because you once lived without smoking.
Simply remember that when you next feel a craving. Tell yourself you must not have the cigarette because you ultimately don’t want it, and the signal from your body is only a part of the withdrawal symptoms, not a real need. You don’t want to believe lies, do you?
After about two weeks of *absolutely* no smoking, the withdrawal symptoms will fade and you won’t have any physiological push to smoke. Then, you just need to avoid being in situations that will entice you to get back into it, until you have developed your self-control. If “you only smoke when you drink”, take a break from drinking too.
Seriously, there is no easy cure. Getting zapped behind the ear might work, but only temporarily, and only because you are giving your power away to (placing your faith in) some procedure which has no real power of its own (or it would be doctor-recommended, at least). Without your power (faith in yourself rather than some product or procedure), you will soon give in and be right back where you started.
The proper way to quit (permanently) is by using only your own free will.
You can totally do it. It’s actually even easy, though you’ll only see that in retrospect.
Good luck!
P.S. Some exercises that could help include sitting down and adding up all the money you spend on cigarettes, and imagining what you could do with that money instead; meditating on how much time you must waste simply in acquiring cigarettes, cleaning ashtrays, etc, and how nasty the habit is in terms of human comfort (the deathly stench, yellow fingers and teeth, etc); how little you actually enjoy it once it becomes a habit, versus the little buzz you got from those first few cigarettes (and which you’ll never really get again as long as you smoke regularly and have a nicotine tolerance). BTW… did you know nicotine is an insecticide?
ask Prometheus to stop lighting your blunts. the chain him to a rock and tell him that if he doesn’t give you a million monkey paws you going to send a Justin Beaver to peck his liver out.
This zapping procedure sounds very much like a jesting comment. Some people get a big thrill out of making humorous suggestions that people are not supposed to take seriously.
Valerian Root is supposed to help.
The only way to tell if any given method works or not for someone is to try it.
Anything to stop that habit is worth it·
