Sounds like that kid was smoking something other than cigarettes.
Actually I have heard of that. Acupuncture is also used in a similar way by placing the needle in the correct spot behind the ear.
Yes, there is. I have seen a commercial for a magnet system applied to the left ear. Supposedly it works like acupuncture. It was called Zero Smoke.
