It is common to gain weight after quitting for several reasons. First you are giving up one addictive habit and your body will want a different “substance” to be addicted to as a replacement. If you substitute exercise or even just walking – that will speed up your metabolism to match what nicotine used to do to speed it up. The other factor is most people substitute the addictive behavior of eating to make up for the loss of nicotine. If you’re going to do that – keep a pocket full of carrot sticks or celery or even Orbit (sugarless gum). Constipation ? I never experienced that (3 brief quits and one long successful quit) but everybody’s body is different. Drink more water – that can’t hurt and may help prevent that problem. Want to know the secret of my successful “quit” ? Chantix ! It was great !
I quit after smoking heavily for 8 years, I did put on a bit of weight but that’s cos I ate to help with the cravings. I don’t know about the toilet issues, that didn’t happen to me. I ate lollies all the time everytime I wanted a smoke, maybe if you did the carrot sticks or something instead. I quit cold turkey, its not easy but it is possible. You just have to try and avoid the things that make you want a smoke.

Hi,
I just wanted to mention a thing that helped me out when I quit. It won´t solve the psychological factor but may help through first difficult weeks. It´s called Smoke Deter.
