within 15 minutes of your last cigarette your body begins to heal itself.

Your body actually starts healing as soon as you toss the last cigarette. Try a support group (if youre having surgery…check the hospital where you are having it…many hospitals offer programs to quit smoking.) Also, many people have had success with the patch…while you are on the patch for several weeks…you aren’t smoking while doing it… you are slowly decreasing the amount of nicotene in your system to the point you don’t crave it….Good Luck!!

I don’t think that it’s like weed where it’s “out of your system” after you quit for a while, I think that its always in you cause it tars your lungs.

My father saw a surgeon about his lung cancer. In order to operate on his lungs he had to have quit smoking for two weeks minimum, because smokers lungs produce secretions (mucus), and during surgery the secretions could be fatal.

3 days and yes, orange juice is good. Also try chewing gum when you feel the need to smoke. Not only does it give your mouth something to do, but when you have a minty mouth, you are less inclined to smoke. It worked for me.

Three to four days for the nicotine to be physically gone from your system.
It can take months for the psychological effects to disappear.

good for you…but keep it up after surgery…
i have heard that they have shots that help and also those over the counter meds that help. and i’ve read orange juice does help too and its not like it can hurt you.
do this…its a great cleanser for the body and really does wonders for it….it will sound wierd but i will give you the link too so you can read about it.
mix together 2 tablespoons lime or lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and 2 teaspoons or to taste either sugar, sugar substitute(i use two packets of this) or honey in 8 ounces of water. shake and drink two of these a day. you will feel better
also check with your doc about help too. here’s the website below…

i have seen where many surgeons want you to quit smoking 2wks before surgery and 2-4 wks after. i know smoking speeds up the heart rate, and compromises your lungs, but i’m not quite sure why they chose that time frame. i think it’s to help promote the healing process. and who knows, once you quit for that long maybe you can quit altogether? good luck.
