If you quit smoking, can your lungs get back to normal?

My dad used to smoke in his 20′s/30′s and he quit. Now he’s like 54 and I was wondering if his lungs are still damaged or whatever. Please help i’m worried.

Smoking Does Alot Of Things. These Are One Of Them.
    Good Luck.

Smoking obviosly damages your lungs. When you aren’t smoking, your lungs try to heal themselfs. So i’d say your dad is pretty safe if he quit that long ago.

They start getting better as soon as one quits smoking.

That was a long time ago.
Bet his lungs are pretty clear, unless he’s breathing on bad air at work.
if he keeps his weight down and exercises ,eat well,he should be fine.
    Relax

To help you feel better, his lungs did/are repair(ing) themselves. It takes a long time for lungs to repair themselves, and to be specific it takes about 12 years to repair them! However, it was a step in the right direction so just be happy that he quit :) I hope this information helps you, and don’t be worried! I’m still trying to get my parents to quit :/

On a side note, I don’t know or not, but I “think” the liver repairs them rather than themselves, but I didn’t take anatomy yet, my friend who took it told me all about the lungs and smoking though.
