I need something to occupy myself since I quit smoking 1 year ago?

Unfortunately I have replaced it with drinking alcohol. I have always been a social drinker but now I drink way too much. I have gained a lot of weight. I am walking every day. I need healthy replacement or at least something that won’t hurt me! Help!

Taekwondo. I go 3 – 4 times week. I lost 42 lbs and I feel great. My cardio, blood pressure and cholesterol are all excellent. There are several men and women in our group that quit smoking anr/or drinking and took up martial arts as a way of getting in shape and learning to control their emotions and discipline themselves. We go out drinking and to movies and stuff once or twicea month but everybody helps keep everybody else in check so no one overdoes it.
Great community support program for exercise and health.

Go to Costco and get two wholesale boxes of your favorite flavor of Orbit Gum!! Every time you need to drink or smoke, pop in a few peices of gum . Remove all alcohol sources from your home, and dont got pubs or bars. Replace it with water and juices. Just as yummy :)

Knit, join a knitting club. It’s trendy and occupies your hands and there are classes everywhere.

Well, I used to be a big drinker myseld and smoked when I drank, but quit drinking, because of the weight gain. I recommend staerting a garden; it’s almost spring. Also jewelry making or painting, or start a web page.

Also, Sunflower seeds can be used for people trying to quit cold turkey style, so eating them could keep you occipied. They may be salty, but you can get unsalted ones too.

    CONGRATS ON QUITTING. YOU ROCK.

Hi! First off, congratulations on quitting!
I just quit myself, almost two months ago and found myself having a drink every night as a substitute as well. Here is what works for me:
    1) First of all, we need to remember that we do not need to replace smoking with anything – we are not losing anything, rather we have gained lots by being free! I know, I know…easier said than done, but its true and I try to remember that.
    2) Herbal tea works the best for me. I tend to like a drink at night before I go to bed to relax with. Herbal tea helps me relax, tastes good, and very few calories. Don’t go cold turkey or you will make yourself miserable. I started with just allowing myself to have a drink on the weekends, and the herbal tea on week nights.
    3) Exercise. If walking is getting boring, try starting something new like a class at the Gym, or working out at home. I am a closet sweatin to the oldies with Richard Simmons fan lol…but it works wonders.
    4) Join http://www.sparkpeople.com. The more aware you are of what you eat (and drink) so far as calories go, especially when you see how much exercise takes to burn so many calroies (alcohol is high in calories and carbs!) it becomes easier to make better choices.

    Good luck!
