I just quit smoking after a year and a half. Are my lungs toasted?

I just turned 20, and after my birthday I’m ready to quit. I averaged about 3-4 cigarettes a day. I don’t ever really crave a cigarette, I just picked it up to smoke with my managers out back at work. I just signed up for a boxing gym, and I was wondering if my lungs are damaged beyond repair or since I quit young, there’s still hope? And is there anything I can do to help my lungs?

Nope and once you quit your lungs will improve almost to full force again. Just make sure you stay away from smoking from now on.

Just a year and a half? Your lungs aren’t toasted, but I’m sure they have shit coating them. Over time your body will flush it out. Just do your thing and don’t stop to worry about it. Lance Armstrong kicked ass with a brain tumor and 1 testicle. You can do that shit.

No, you’ve already reached the point of no return.

Your lungs should have just about recovered to normal. 3 or 4 ciggies a day isn’t a great deal and shouldn’t have done too much damage. Smoking doesn’t just reduce your lungs’ ability to process oxygen but it also affects the amount of carbon monoxide (CO) that has hitched a ride on haemoglobin in your blood reducing the amount of haemoglobin available for oxygen transportation. One cigarette can affect the CO levels in your bloodstream for up to 45 mins.
