I just quit smoking a week ago – what is going on with my body?

I feel pretty good, and the cravings are minimal, I think because I’m using the patch. I really have to watch my food intake, or else I’d be shoveling in everything I can get my hands on, but otherwise that aspect is not too bad. However, there’s some weird stuff going on that I can’t explain. I wake up every morning and my throat feels like I chain-smoked 2 packs the night before – my mouth is dry and there’s a terrible taste in my mouth, no matter what kind of dental hygiene I practice prior to going to bed. Also, I’m really gassy, all the time, no matter what I eat or don’t eat. In contrast to my extreme discomfort (and the discomfort of others) because of the gas, I’m also constipated! All of this is really embarassing and I’m beginning to wonder if it’s just me or if it is in some way related to my decision to quit….can anyone help me?

It’s because your body is trying to rid itself of all those rotten toxins, now that you have quit. You need to drink lots more water, and eat more fruit and fibre. Your lungs are also probably trying to shift the crap too, so take some long walks, or go swimming. Hope that helps.

If you were a heavy smoker and you quit cold turkey, then your body is going through withdrawals from nicotine first of all, and through healing of your organs. I know many smokers experience the throat and mouth issues for a few weeks after quitting. Your lungs are full of tar and the deposits are being removed by the cells that move phlegm from lungs to mouth. It means you’re healing, even if it brings unpleasant side effects. Also, nicotine is a bowel relaxer, so that’s why you’re now constipated. The additional gas is just another symptom of constipation. Try Metamucil or any of those fibre supplements to gently help you get back on schedule. Good going for quitting!!

ahm i think it’s all about with your decision to quit smoking
i think it is a withdrawal syndrome
your body is not used without your habit (smoking)
so things happened to you like that
quitting is done first by limiting your smoking until not smoking anymore

I believe all these are withdrawal symptoms of quiting smoking, some are due to physical dependence on nicotine, the rest are psychological symptoms and they will fade by time. nicotine will be washed away from your body 24 hrs after you quit using the batches, but another metabolite of nicotine “that is cotinine” needs like2weeks to totally disappear from your body . so most probably you will stop having these symptoms 2 weeks after stopping the batches.

The weird stuff that you are describing is the effects that you get when you stop smoking. You are getting these because you body has been damaged by smoking and it is trying to heal itself. The weirdness is your body changing back to the way it used to be before you started smoking. The weirdness in your throat is that when you breathe in the smoke it is destroying the cilia that clean your windpipe and now your throat is trying to grow the cilia back. I hope that i was some help to you

8 month ago , I did quit smoking and after a clean one week, I did sick, felt dizzy all day long, felt like losing my breath[ I really feel like dying}, can’t think properly and my b/p go up high.My doctor mad at me when I told him that I’m cold turkey in quit smoking. He told me to smoked back regulary like usual and slowly quit by less smoke day by day.Now my b/p normal back and from 2 packs a day to one pack for 3 day.
Just do it slowy, no patch or anything can really help.

Probably the patches you are using are good for reducing the nicotine craving but they are doing nothing do reduce nicotine withdrawal symptoms. You might consider using a harmless but effective natural remedy to reduce the discomforts and any withdrawal symptoms.
