I am on day 7 of Chantix & am supposed to quit smoking tomorrow, but I am still craving cigarettes! Help!?

I have tried Chantix once before about 2 years ago & it took my cravings away TOTALLY! Now I am taking it again and am still craving cigarettes. I am sure that it is because I have taken it before and my body recognized it is why it is not working as well as last time. But I am on day 7 of it & am supposed to quit smoking TOMORROW! Can I still smoke past my quit date??? Please help! Thanks! :)

find your true reason for quitting smoking and quit.
don’t think about it. you have to really want to quit in order to stop.

those desires to smoke are called cravings.. people in support groups have some tools to deal with them.. one of my favorites is known as the 5d’s

Distract (do something else) for instance its hard to smoke doing dishes

Delay (i don’t need one right now).. continued delays = a quit!!

Discuss you did that by asking the question, people in support groups do it in meetings or e-mails

Drink Water, it helps reduce cravings, and flushes toxins

Deep breathe, most smokers only breathe deeply when inhaling!!

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Ok.. Im about a week ahead of you on my Chantix plan. I had the same problem, still do kinda. I talked to pfizer on the phone. They told me that the reason they say to quit on day 8 is that in their studies that was the best “average quit date”. for some people it is day 10 or day 6. Try to quit tomorrow. If you screw up and cheat its ok. Buy a bunch of plastic coffee stirrers or toothpicks to keep in your mouth. It really helps. I really didnt feel reduced cravings til day 11 or so. Its not a miracle drug, it does take effort, but having “slip-ups” isnt the end of the world. Do the best you can. Im on day 16 now. Had a few slip-ups in the last several days, but my lungs feel better than they have in years already and that is my motivation that will keep me from smoking. Im not gonna lie, quitting sucks.. and I dont think it will get easier. But in my case I have to. Chronic bronchitis at 30, and repeated bouts with pneumonia. Today I took a long hike without being out of breath- that was awesome. If you need any support from a real person (like a Chantix buddy- you can email me in my profile)
