i want to quit smoking too…but the actual WILL POW is how ya do it and i just dont have any….
this technique has worked well for me in the past.get super drunk so you are so sick you dont want to smoke for 3 days after.then stay away from places you will be exposed to second hand smoke.ive quit smoking several times for extended periods,i just start again not because of craving nicotine but because, well,i like smoking.but to answer your question, you need to replace the habit.i mean, the physical act of handling a cigarette.squeeze a rubber ball.get a yo-yo.eat carrot sticks.
It takes real determination and resolution to do it without substitutes. I tried just quitting and failed, I succeeded when I used nicotine gum and have now been an ex smoker for 8 years
Way to go. Studies have shown that cold turkey is the most effective way to quit. It may take more tries, but the overall chance that you will not take it up again is higher. The nicotine will be completely out of your system in 3-4 days. After this, it is a psychological dependence. This may be the hardest part. Drink lots of water, exercise, get a support system (someone to remind you, constantly, that smoking is gross, and to remind you that you are doing a good job). Keep your hands busy, and not with a lighter.
If you need more help, there are medications available that DO NOT contain nicotine. Chantix is a prescription only medicine that competes with nictotine receptors in the brain. It doesn’t give you the “pleasure” associated with nicotine. Ask your doc. Any prescription is better than killing yourself slowly with smoke. Best of luck.
