Talk to your doctor…mine said that it was perfectly okay, actually preferable, to chew the gum because that way you are only getting the nicotine, not the nicotine and the other 4000 carsonogenic substances in a ciggarette…but talk to your own dr first before you start on any stop smoking program, especailly since you are preggo! Congrats!
As bad as smoking is when you are pregnant, quitting cold turkey can put a lot of stress on your body and can cause miscarriages. Slowly taper yourself off. My first pregnancy I didnt want to smoke as soon as I found out I was pregnant, so i was told to smoke 3 cigarettes a day for 1 week, 2 a day for the next week, and 1 per day for the third week. I didnt want to smoke, but the withdrawls could have caused harm. I have now been smoke free for almost 3 years.
The day I found out I was pregnant was the last time I touched a cigarette. I just did not find them appealing anymore. Whether it was my natural instincts kicking into protective mode or the fact that I just did not want one due to the nausea I dont know. I have not smoked for 8 months now and I will never smoke again.
To be fair, if you have this immediate feeling of love for your unborn child then you will give up the nasty little sticks no problem.
i automatically quit with no problem when i SUSPECTED i was pregnant….after a while the mere smell of cigarettes made me ill….if my husband smoked in our truck and then i got in i got sick immediately….he ended up quitting too…..just the thought of what i would be doing to our twins if i smoked was enough to make me put them down
Go and see your doctor they will probably make you try and stop on your self before giving you patches ETC as they aren’t very good for the baby. I stoped straight away just the thought of harming my baby made me stop and there is also the increased risk of cot death, asthma, and premature birth that should be all you need to know to stop straight away.
Good Luck

Go to the grocery store and buy lots of healthy muchies, almonds, etc., things you can keep busy with. Also, when i quit I slept a lot. When i thought id couldnt face another moment of withdrawl, id take a nap and sleep it off. By and large, sleeping worked the best for me. After 2 or 3 weeks the smell of smoke will not be enticing anymore..

The day that I found out I was pregnant, I quit smoking, cold turkey. You just have to have the will power to want to quit.
