How do you convince someone to quit smoking?

What are some things I can do or some things I can say to get someone to quick smoking? this person has been smoking for about 20 years and I want them to quit smoking for their health! It is a person really close to me and I don’t want to lose them early :’( PLEASE HELP

go to the hospital and find people who are now breathing with air tanks, and have lost most of their voice, look at an autposy of a dead smokers lungs, see how black they are….
ok make a group on facebook saying if 1,000,000,000 join my ____ will stop smoking and make a deal with the person who is smoking that if 1,000,000,000 people join they have to stop smoking. or just show them these pictuers:

Sorry ,but there is nothing you can say or do . The desire to quit has to come from within the smoker himself/herself . Say whatever you want about potential health hazards. Smokers do not care what you say until they want to quit on their own . If you constantly annoy a smoker , they will just ignore you or smoke behind your back . Give the person the information you have , then leave him alone . He / She will quit when they are ready … Not because you want them to . To quit smoking is one of the hardest things a person can do . But I agree with you , quitting is nothing but a good thing.
The person close to you doesn’t need to see all the stop smoking info, health statistics and awful photos because he/she has probably been struggling with the idea to stop smoking for a long time. I know for some smokers they can just stop but for a lot of people they really want to stop but just can’t. They try and then discover it’s much much harder than they thought so it’s easy to slip back to the smoking habit. I have heard that it’s just as hard to stop smoking as it is for an addict to give up heroin which is really a scary thought. So maybe encouragement, maybe join a pharmacy program with professional guidance using patches or gum or whatever and also he/she has someone to report to. But without a doubt – he/she has to really want to do it. Good luck!!!
It is really difficult to get someone to stop.
They have to want to.
You might try this…
1) Persuade them to use a cigarette filter for a few days.
2) Then have them clean it out.
3)…the black oozing muck that comes out normally goes in their lungs.
4) When you see it, don’t say or do anything to persuade them to stop. Let the idea come to them.
Unfortunately, you can’t. I smoked for 26 years, and didn’t quit until “I” was ready. Its hard because smokers get pleasure when they smoke. I still miss smoking sometimes.
Each person will stop smoking when the person will know the effect that the caused of the dangers of smoking. You can provide information such as article, video or seeing patients in hospital patients who are sick from consuming cigarettes
