How Did U Quit Smoking During Pregnancy?
I am 4 months pregnant (14 weeks & 5 days) and have tried numerous times to quit smoking with no luck. I was wondering if anyone could help me with ways that helped them quit smoking. Please don’t be ignorent or rude….I know how harmful it is thats why I am trying to quit. And please don’t say just go cold turkey because I tried that and felt like i was going to jump out of my skin and my doctor even informed me that quitting cold turkey was worse for the baby because of how stressed out you get. Thanks!

knowing I was pregnant was enough for me. I had my last cigarette the day after I found out. I just couldn’t see myself out there on the curb at work with a big belly and a cigarette. I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin, too but that only lasts a few days and it’s better with some dum dums!! I can’t believe it worked for me so I don’t know hjow motivated you are to quit and don’t know if it would work for you… you get past the jumping out of your skin though!
just keep try not to smoking went u see some one soming go the other way.
I quit with the gum. You’re going to feel like crap. There’s no way around it. The gum, though, will take the edge off. I only used it for the first four days, and ate fruit when I wanted to smoke. I gained about five pounds, but I will NEVER regret my decision to give my baby the best chance in life as possible.
I smoked 2 packs a day for sixteen years straight, by the way.
1) You have to want it. If you want it, you’ll quit, no matter what the method is.
2) If you use nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patch), make sure that you take a LITTLE at night so that you can still sleep.
3) be prepared to feel like crap. You’re going to feel like you have the flu for about 3 days. After the first week, though, it will start to taper off.
4) Don’t snap at people. It’s not their fault that you got yourself addicted to nicotine. You need to have people support you, and no one wants to support a crabby person.
5) Take one day at a time. Reward yourself each day that you’re smoke free.
Remember, you’ll feel crappy only for a little while. After that, the smell of cigarettes with really start to disgust you.
i quit smoking during my pregnancy. everytime i wanted one, i would just think about how bad it was for me and how bad it smelled. that was enough for me, but i didn’t smoke everyday or anything.
back when i was smoking everyday and tried to quit, i would just smoke fewer everyday and when i wanted one, try to wait a while. once you go longer without, it makes you realize that you really don’t need one to survive.
and even if you smoke one less per day, that is better for the baby.
Good Luck!!
Okay here is a story that my Doctor told me when I was pregnant.
She had delivered this beautiful baby boy to a mother who smoked through her whole pregnancy, she couldn’t believe how precise he was, but the sad thing was he was still born because the mother smoked and it killed the baby, and my doctor told me she never wants to deliver a dead baby like that again. Whether the story was true or not it made me quit. Good luck to you.
I am now 6 1/2 months pregnant and I really didnt officially find out that I was pregnant until I was around 2 months.(I never kept track of my period because I only sleep with my husband) But when I find out yes it was hard for me to quit too. I was smoking a pack a day until I found out that I was pregnant. I felt like it wasnt fair for me to be smokin because this child growing inside me depends on me to be eating and drinking and not doing anythings that could harm him/her. If you cant quit cold turkey try cutting in half what you smoke every day until you are down to like 1 then it should be alot easier to quit. If that doesnt work talk to your OB about counseling or pills that you can take. I hope this helps!
Well hate to tell you this but i’ve smoked 7 yrs before i got pregnant with my first child when i found out i was pregnant i quit cold turkey without problem you know how i did it was that little baby inside me that was enough to quit. And i a year and half went by i started up again. Now i’m pregnant again you what i did quit cold turkey again why cause of little baby growing inside me. Your not trying hard enough you need to think about that baby and what cigs do to your health of your baby.
Well it was not easy I allways said I’d quit when I got pregnant so I did I still think about a ciggy when I’m bored or stressed but actually they disgust me I even had dreams about cigs it’s nuts you really have to want to quit first I cut back gradually being as I never smoked in my house I kept them outside so I had to interrupt w/e was going on to smoke. It never stopped me b4 but anyway I smoked half of it and threw it on the ground and stepped on it I made my self wait 3 hrs then 4 and so on in between these small halves of cigarettes eventually it was like I wasn’t even counting the hours and thats when Iknew it was over for me I threw the remnants of a pack that I had for a week away and haven’t had one since …………as I said they will disgust you eventually !!
my mom smoked with my sister so i kind of know how hard it is to quite. best thing to do is count how many you smoke a day and then every other day cut one also try chewing gum while you smoke this will change the taste. if you’re heavy smoker you should never go cold turkey cuz this cause too much stress on you and your baby.
I quit before I got pregnant, but I ate about a million candy canes. Something about unwrapping the candy cane and holding it helped me in a way that plain gum or hard candy did not. Every time I wanted a cigarette I ate a candy cane.
Also, I feel like there are some strong similarities between the way I felt when I quit smoking and the start of pregnancy. Both time I felt anxious jittery and like my skin was crawling. I think the hormones made me feel weird and like I couldn’t relax. So some of the withdrawal symptoms might not be just withdrawal symptoms. Good Luck, it is going to be hard but you can do it.
