How can I quit smoking? I want to but I don’t. My husband wants me to quit and we have a daughter, but it ?
is a big stress reliever for me. Right now I’m sick and I can’t smoke as much and it’s killing me! I’ve bitten off my nails to the cuticles. I’ve tried to smoke a few and that’s making it worse! I’ve had three cigarettes today. Help?

One hour at a time, I havent been able to do it. but I will. Its killing me and my loved ones
Load up on nicotine patches, gum and lozenges and use them.
There’s a lot of ways to stop smoking. EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Hypnosis and the most important of all is self-discipline. Yah right! that’s hard to do!
You’d said that it is a big stress reliever. What causes the stress? Why are you stressed? Are you taking life too seriously? Not having fun?
Be easy in your life. Everything is fine and have fun
Switch to Skoal. better buzz
Go to the doctor and ask for Champix. They are tablets you take and even though you can smoke for the first two weeks, you don’t feel like one after a couple of days. Great for if you can’t rely on will power:)
One day at a time. There are medicines that can help. My husband also smokes. He tried Chantix, but he was in the small percentage of people that had vivid nightmares while on it so his doctor took him off of it. He’s talked about quitting cold turkey too, but with his stressful job he has had problems giving it up for too long. After you hit about 2 weeks it gets easier becouse it’s all leaving your system. I would recommend the patch over the gum as I had a professor in college who stopped smoking two years ago but has about four pieces of the gum everyday.
When someone is told not to do something we mentally find it more appealing. We all know its bad as I correlate smoking with work stress. I know I get more headaches and hate the smell but I do it anyway. I know eventually I will stop hopefully. And when the time is right for you, you will also. Make sure if you have an understanding husband that pressure will make it worse.
Well, like crack, it is a mental drug. All the things you are feeling–the withdrawals–they can be controlled mentally. That sounds simple until you try it. Right? Well, try having a doctor tell you, “you next cigarette may be your last”. Is that enough incentive? Sure it is. It worked for me, right after having a stroke at 57. I smoked my last cigarette before hearing that and never gave it another thought…it was just not an option any longer and surprisingly, I did not bite my nails, over eat, shake, or any of those other things I had been mentally programmed to go through.
You will not quit till your health has been jeopardized, because you are hard headed. For the love of your child will not do it—and I pray you do not smoke at home around your child.— it has been linked to children having asthma, you know.
You will not quit for your hubby, because he is not going to leave you over cigarettes…YOU WILL ONLY BE SUCCESSFUL IF YOU MAKE IT IMPORTANT TO YOU AND YOUR HEALTH. TO BE AROUND TO SEE YOUR DAUGHTER MARRIED, FINISH COLLEGE AND BECAUSE YOU WANT TO HAVE A HEALTHY 50+ YEARS.
Remember not noticing that a lot of supermarkets and Home Depots and Lowers have those electric scooters now….that is for people who use to smoke and have restricted veins now…”we” cannot walk over a city block (sometimes around the house too) without our legs hurting so badly…IT IS CALLED PAD. PERIPHERAL ARTERY DISEASE. IT COMES FROM SMOKING LONG TERM. JUST KEEP SMOKING, IF YOU LIVE LONG ENOUGH, YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD REASON TO STOP.
I have emphysema … I had to quit … Tonight it’s been 1 1/2 years . I smoked for 45 years … When I got sick i cut way down … but after awhile i got sick of torturing myself with 5 to 10 cigarettes a day ….. I saw a hypnotherapist just to get me over the hump and then quit cold turkey … Haven’t had 1 cigarette , not one drag … after the first week it got easier . You can try chantix , wellbutrin , the patch or gum ….. The important thing is you realize you CAN do it before you end up with any of the common ailments associated with long term smoking . GOOD LUCK!!!
Do it by laser therapy.
You said u smoke because of stress.
Laser therapy costs $275 each for three sessions.
it works the same as acupuncture but is a non invasive therapy. Basically instead of using needles like in acupuncture. They shoot lasers at certain nerve points. Instead of sticking needles in them like acupuncture.
This procedure u can not even feel. because its just lasers shooting onto your skin. What it does is releases endorphins which is already in your body. Endorphins make u happy and in effect releive any stress u have. They recommend three sessions.
They only thing the people tell you to do to help is remove anything related to cigarettes from the home. That means lighters, cigarettes and ashtrays.
Google it if u need more info.
It’s certainly a reasonable request. Aside from setting a bad example for your daughter, second hand smoke is bad for her…and you can rob her of her mother sooner than it would have happened otherwise. If you just *can’t* quit yet, maybe you could restrict your smoking to outside only?
It took me several tries to quit, but I finally did it one day. You just need to make up you mind and do it.
It or some side effect from it will eventually kill you prematurely. One thing that helped me is that I got to spend all the money saved on not buying tobacco.
i can understand u cause my dad is a smoker too. he is far more worse than u do. he smokes 25 cigarettes per day! but u can try to change your smoking habit to something else like eating candies, sweets and chocolates, drink soft drinks, playing computer games, wii, ps2/3 etc
good luck. btw, whenever u think u cant stop smoking, think of your daughter, family and the future!
