How can I help and encourage my mom to quit smoking?

She’s been smoking for 20+ years and I’m really concerned about her health. I know it’s really bad for her body. She’s not sure she can do it. What can I do?
She’s being really hard headed :( she wants to quit but doesn’t want to bother! :’(

make her feel guilty. every time she smokes just say, wow mom, when you’re old and sick and dying of cancer, how will i take care of you? how will we be able to afford your medical bills? do you think you’ll live long enough to see your grandkids? that should work. fake crying should help, too.

does your mom smoke as soon as she get up .tell her to wait an hour before she smoke her first cigarette.then the next morning wait to hours and the next day wait three before you know it she will go a whole day with out smoking, you can’t just stop smoking you have to ween your self off of it .like a baby trying to drink from a cup and not a bottle.try it if she wants to quit it may work

take up an activity with her. Replace the smoking with something else, something healthy. Once you go through withdraws, which lasts about 3 days, it’s all in your head. I had to carry around a straw that I cut to the length of a cigarette to just hold to keep my mind off of it. Just give her lots of encouragement and let her know that you believe in her.

Do like my son did, who is now 16. At 14, he said mom, you know it’s like any other addiction, you’lll feel bad for about five days and then you’ll be fine. He said, I’ll help you get over the hump. When he said that, then, I said okay. I haven’t smoked in years although I wasn’t a heavy smoker, just from time to time. Now it’s never. It was the best thing he ever did for me! I never smoked around him, but he hurt seeing me do that outside. It made me realize how much he loves me, although he can sometimes be a royal pain in my but, but I love him soooo much, I loved him a lot then, but OMG, when he did that, that was like amazing, I think if I could love anymore, I’d have been able to fly.

I love my children! You are so noble for trying to help your mom. Betcha she’ll respond to this one!

    God bless and good luck!
