been smoking for 6 months, need to quit, what worked for you? Any advice?

I smoke about a half pack a day and have asthma and really need to quit, I have gone a few days without smoking but the stress at the hospital keeps me going back, I’m always out of breath and really hate how they make me feel, im considering one of those quit smoking help lines like a sponser.

cold turkey works the best. but if you do not have the will power for that, you should try the nicotine patches. or the gum.

I will tell you what cured me, watching me uncle die from lung cancer, lost my father in law, brother his wife and 2 days ago, my girlfriends brother was told he has 6 months to live….he’s a smoker.

You could try using a rubber band around your wrist. I know it has worked for me in the past. Every time you think about smoking snap the rubber band. I know this sounds silly. But it’s a better solution than the expensive drugs.

I smoked for over 30 years and quit cold turkey. I picked a date and time and right before it expired i smoked one cig after another for a total of about 5. I would light cig’s and puff on them but not inhale the smoke for a few days after, then had lit cigs that i just lit and didn’t puff on. i had never tried to quit before and it wasn’t bad at all for me.
My thought is that smoking is a habit more so than an addiction. Because you smoke at certain times and when doing or after doing certain things. Like: waking up, having coffee, after a meal, driving, etc. I don’t believe in help lines or support groups for anything. If ur trying to quit something it’s best not to think about it so why would u call or talk about something ur trying to forget about? Makes no sense to me.

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives.
