I was told that I needed to find something to replace the time I would spend smoking, so I ran through quite a few bags of Tootsie-Pops during the first month I quit. The best advice I received was not to expect the desire to have a cigarette go away. It’s still there, even though I haven’t lit up in 3 1/2 years. It’s not easy, but it’s an amazing feeling to say you were able to quit. Good luck!

Usually people say it’s easier to make a habit than to break one. So if your goal is to break your smoking habit, than your solution is to make a habit that makes smoking impossible. I put some passing thought into this once, but the ideas I had were a bit radical (such as forming a habit of stomping a cigarette you’re about to smoke into the ground immediately after you get it in your hand).

One solution, which would be substantially better for your pocket book and probably more effective, is to make a habit of purchasing something like gum when you eye the cigarettes behind the counter.

Usually people try chewing gum when they go for a cigarette, but this generally fails because when you have the two options in your hands, you will consider only which one makes you feel better. When you have your money in your hands, you’re not thinking about which one makes you feel better, you’re thinking about which one is more expensive. This will help you pick gum over the very expensive cigarettes.

Besides, gum tastes better and doesn’t have adverse health affects. Just have will power. Friends can encourage you too… Bring somebody who you don’t want to mess around with to the store to force you to make good choices. Ultimately, it’s your own responsibility, but you can make it easier for yourself by getting help from people you know and trust.

not to say that chewing is any better than smoking but maybe try to not smoke for so long and then when you can’t fight the urge try chewing and see if that helps you quit…..alot of people who stop smoking start to chew,…they are both bad habits but idk chew seems sort of healthier in a way i guess lol

There are also those smokeless cigarrettes, or the electronic ones. They say that if you can get through the first 3 days without smoking, you aren’t addicted anymore. So if you can last 3 days, you’re golden!
