Any idea why I still have athsma after I quit smoking?

I quit about 3 weeks ago and have only been socially smoking (so maybe once a week)

Believe me this a huge cut down from what I used to smoke. I could go through about 15 in a day…

The think is I still have really bad athsma despite cutting down hugely.

Any ideas why and what I can do to help it?

(inhalers seem to make it slightly worse for some reason btw – suffered with it all my life)

Thanks
Thanks for the support and encouragement guys :)

your lungs are sensitized to the smoke. you might have emphysema.

It is true that Emphasema is a probabillity. You also need to factor in how much of your life you have smoked as well. 3 weeks is fantastic, and something to definitely be proud of. I think the next thing for you to do would be to visit your GP to assist you on going along the correct path to keeping you off smoking, checking out your lungs and also the seriousness of your asthma. If you have suffered from it the whole of your life, it is important to be re assessed every so often to make sure you are having the correct inhaler for your needs. Also, have you considered the fact that your asthma could be worsened by being in a secondary smoking situation. This is just as bad as smoking yourself, and maybe until you have seen your GP and had tests, you should try and avoid situations where you are confronted by smoke in confined spaces. It may just take some times for your lungs and body to adjust to your new and fantastic life choice. It will take your body a while to detoxify all the nasties that the cigarettes have ridden your body with for a while I presume. Best of luck

    Hi Papercli,

You have made a difficult but healthy choice. Your asthma will become less when you quit completely.

By giving up smoking you will be reducing your chances of getting cancer by 30 %.

There are many other benefits to quitting smoking. Even social smoking is smoking/

Keep tryig. You will get there.

i congratulate u for quitting SMOKING . personally i am unable to eo.for how many years u were a smoker?
the damage already caused to ur LUNGS cannot be repaired.
do some breathing exercises. inhale deeply stop as much as possible then exhale out slowly continue the same procedure minimum 30 times daily.
next u exhale fully pull ur abdomen in stop as much as possible then slowly inhale. do it for 30 times.
initially it is difficult but as the days progress u feel it is very easy to do.
my sincere request is to stop that SOCIAL SMOKING also. once u start one cigarette u crave for another and another.
