tell them you want to quit and need their support.
If they don’t want to stop smoking then ask them to smoke outside, this will get them used to smoking outdoors for when the baby is born.
Explain to them that by smoking around you will increase the chances of a small, preterm baby and also puts the risk of cot-death up. A baby who regularly spends one hour a day in a smoky environment is twice as likely to die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) – or cot death – as a baby who lives in a smoke-free home
Have a look at this website regarding smoking and cot death

First off, the people who are in your home should be courteous enough to smoke outside when you are pregnant. Not many people smoke inside anymore. Also, think about this….my daughter has asthma because I smoked while pregnant with her. I didn’t smoke much, either. Just on occasion while stressed out etc…Now she is 9 and has to take an inhaler and nebulizer as well as other meds. It is not fair to the child. I wish I could take it back.
First off, that is great! And congrats on the baby.
With help of gum or a patch there is a better chance for you to quit. I don’t know if either are safe during pregnancy though. But it will be tough being in a house full of smokers.
Maybe you can talk to everyone and see if someone else might want to try to quit with you. Then you will have eachother to work with. Either way they will need to support you and work with you. Maybe you can get everyone to smoke outside only.
God Bless!
hun everyone in my house smokes 2 and i quit as soon as i got that positive on the pregnancy test…the only ones that DONT smoke in my house is my hubby and me…u need will power…everytime u wanna take a drag of ur cig…think of what it could be doing to ur baby…im sorry i know its hard to quit and i know 4 some ppl its not as hard as it is for other ppl…but i would really suggest talking to ur doc or something because u could really be hurting ur baby…when u get a craving or something…chew gum…thats what i do and i havent smoked in 3 weeks..almost a month… i know its hard but like i said u need the will power.. if u dont have the will power…ur not going to beable to quit…especially if u do it cold turkey…good luck and i hope u get the outcome u want..
ohh and my mom smoked w/ me when she was prego..i was only 4lbs 5 oz when i was born…and i have asthma now but its not that bad…but still…u dont want ur baby growing up w/ asthma…its horrible and it sucks when you wanna get active…
Every time you want to light a cigarette, think of your baby. If you have a sonogram picture, keep it with you and look at it when you think you can’t resist smoking. Also, talk to the other family members and explain how smoking in the house harms you and your unborn baby, maybe you will find a solution together. Best of luck and health to you and your baby!
I quit the day i found out I was pregnant….anytime I had a craving I just thought to myself “is this ONE cigg worth possibly damaging my babies life forever?” The answer was always no
Ok, I did smoke during all 3 of my pregnancies, and all 3 turned out big and healthy. How big? 8.8, 8.11, and 7.4 lbs. I did cut back from a pack and a half a day, to 5-7 cigarettes a day. How did I come to this? My Dr. Quitting cold turkey could put alot of stress on the baby, and you don’t want that.
Also, none of them have asthma or any other illnesses. Why? Good genes. Asthma is a genetic disorder, not from smoking.
My sister smoked while pregnant with my niece and nephew. Healthy. My MIL did the same with her 5 kids. Healthy. So did my SIL with her 3. Healthy healthy healthy. So between us, that’s 12 pregnancies, and 12 healthy kids. That’s more than luck. That’s great genes.
My father smoked around mother while pregnant with my sister and I, and no problems whatsoever. Once again. Great genes. Believe what you may, but facts are facts.
Don’t let others scare you into a miscarriage. You do what you got to do. Good luck.
