How did you finally stop smoking cigarrettes?

What methods did you use to get you to successfully quit smoking (ie: hypnosis, chantix, weaning etc). How did you get over the routine cravings like after eating, driving, with coffee etc? I am starting to get sick again and I want to quit before winter gets here so it doesn’t get worse. I’ve tried to many methods before and nothing worked. I feel I am too weak to quit! But for my own health and for my son I need to stop! Also, how do you deal with quitting if your spouse smokes and doesn’t want to quit?

Not everyone can handle all or part of my answer. But, it is honest. I have quit smoking twice. The first time, I went cold turkey and quit for about six months and picked it back up because I was around it. Then a few years later, I quit smoking again(2 years ago). This time, it was at a point in my life where I decided to start living for God. I gave up alcohol, drugs, cigarettes and a party lifestyle all in the same day. At this point, I went on a fast two days before I was scheduled to be baptized. I fasted Friday(a couple of crackers and water was all I had), Saturday(only water and a little tea), and Sunday morning which is when I got baptized in the wonderful name of Jesus and got my sins washed away. I had no desire to smoke or drink or anything else after that and can even be around people smoking and drinking now. I haven’t had one drag of a cigarette or drink of alcohol in over two years! You can try the fasting part and try juices or however. I say to go all the way because it is AWESOME!! But, if you research fasting as a way to quit smoking, I’m sure it will turn out that it works. I believe the physical addiction is gone in just a couple of days. But, my mental addiction was erased by the power of God as a blessing to my committment and sacrifice to him. You can do it either way you choose and I will be praying for you!! :) God Bless!

Studies have shown that quitting with hypnosis is the #1 most effective method for quitting smoking easily and permanently, with little or cravings, side-effects, etc. Now, obviously I’m biased, as I am a hypnotist, but I can tell you that a LOT of people have quit successfully with hypnosis. Something else to check into is something called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). It is a type of self-hypnosis/acupressure technique that interrupts the patterns associated with smoking, and many people have stopped successfully using JUST that technique. You can find more about EFT at http://www.eftuniverse.com. A guy named Gary Craig has a bunch of information that will help you use this technique, and he offers this information for free. I highly encourage you to go take a look.

The good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!
