how can my mom quit smoking?
she has tried everything, patches, gum, hypnosis. everything!! is there another way for her to stop smoking? she has done it since she was 13 now she is 45. she is desperate! but every time she tries to quit, her husband gets her angry then she relies on a smoke to calm her down. i have told her that smoking is controlling her life, but she doesn’t understand. i always tell her that each smoke she has is taking minutes off her life but then she defends smoking by saying “what if i got ran over by a car? smoking didn’t cause that did it!” is there some thing that can make stop smoking?

She has to really want to do it for herself before anything else. I’m not sure of many ways to help convince her that she needs to quit. Hopefully she’ll be able to quit .
Has your mum looked at the electronic cigarettes… you should check out the websites if you have not…she can still get a burst of pure nicotine without all the chemicals that are in a cigarette. It is recommended that you start at a higher dose and then cut it down, it is also done in menthol etc. You can get a starter pack which includes the cigarette, two batteries, charger and some filters of different strengths. When you puff on the cigarette it lights up orange at the tip and you exhale a puff of what appears to be smoke but is infact steam, giving the illusion that you are infact smoking. It is best to watch the video on the website to see the full effect. I realise you want your mum to stop and it is a very difficult thing to do but we smokers have to keep trying to stop and explore every avenue. I have bought one of these cigarettes and i am planning to stop buying cigarettes today and switch to the electronic one tomorrow, its a good device and i know it will work… positive thought… Why is it though we are called quitters, very negative right from the word go, designed for us to fail ? There is also a book Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking, she should read it, it makes a lot of sense, it also includes two cds with inspirational tips. Well anyway good luck on your mum’s road to being a non smoker….
