No magic pill. Wellbutrin can be prescribed by a doctor to help withdrawal symptoms. The only proven method to MAKE someone stop is to chain them to a heavy object.

Stop Smoking Help?

I have smoked for 12 yrs and now smoke a pack day sometimes a pack and a half when I’m stressed out. I do not have insurance and can not afford the doctors visit plus the presciption for Chantix that I’ve know helped alot of people stop. Does anyone have any ideas to help calm my nerves and stop smoking? Thanks.

Werner Michael answers:

Call 1-800-QuitNow (784-8669) They will help pay for whatever method of quitting you want to use. Even if you should slip and start smoking again, they will help you. They are part of the tobacco lawsuit money that is suppose to be used to help people quit. Give it a try. It is free.

help stop smoking?

I have smoked a pack a day since i was 13. I am now 15 weeks pregnant. I want to stop. I feel bad every time i pick up a cigarette. I have cut down to 1/ 2 a pack a day and find it very difficult to stop cold turkey. Does anyone know of anyways to stop that wont hurt the baby? Please dont judge me. Im trying to do whats best for my baby.

Werner Michael answers:

Good job for cutting them in half, quitting is so hard! Talk to your dr. About taking Wellbutrin xl, thats how I quit after 8 years. I actually quit smoking cold turkey because of the medicine. It will make you not want to smoke anymore, if you do smoke it will taste horrible. Wellbutrin is a category b, so its safe to take during pregnancy and is way safer than smoking cigarettes. It is an anti-depressant and also really helps with the common pregnancy mood swings, its the same as zyban.
Good luck with the pregnancy and quitting smoking!

Sandy asks…

Can someone help me stop my Daddy from smoking?

Once I learned that people can die from smoking when I was in 3rd grade, I talked about it with my dad ever since. He wouldn’t listen so I interviewed him about when he started and stuff. He said he started at a very young age and now he’s 41. He has a twin (my uncle) who has died 2 years ago from smoking and my daddy’s dad died from smoking too. I talked about it with my grandma (his mom), my aunt (his sister), and my mommy. My aunt and grandma said that they want me to hide my daddy’s cigerette’s or throw them out and if he looks for them, I have to tell him I don’t know where it is, but I’m afraid that he might just buy a new pack and waste more money. We got my mommy’s dad (my grandpa) to stop smoking. Whenever he asked my dad to buy him a cigerette (because my grandpa likes to stay home all the time now), we just keep his money. He stopped asking after a few times. I don’t think I can do that with my daddy because he can buy it himself. My mommy said that if he doesn’t love us, then he can do whatever he wants. If he did love us, he would stop and not risk his life. Whenever me or my sister tell him to stop, he yells at us and we get grounded for a week. We saw this smoking commerical with him and he said he would stop but he didn’t. He only stopped for 2 weeks. He smokes like a pack a day! It’s just crazy. Whenever he smokes around me and my sister, we cough and say ew. Yesterday he smoked when we were with him and my sister got upset again and she almost cried. I told my dad that if he keeps smoking, I’m gonna start too. So he yelled at me saying no it’s bad for you but it doesn’t make sense to me because he keeps smoking. Yesterday I told him that I will inhale the smoke if he doesn’t stop so he pushes us away from him. I feel terrible for my 2 little cousins because they’re dad died of smoking (my daddy’s twin). We hardly get to see them now and when we saw them last month, they came up to MY daddy and said “DADDY!” They were so happy to see my dad because they don’t really know that they’re twins. They’re like 3 or 4 years old. So now they call my daddy they’re dad and I’m fine with that because they’re still too young to understand. Ever since they’re dad died, they have been calling my daddy they’re dad. I don’t want anything like that to happen to my daddy. I’ve tried everything I can. I need an idea that won’t get him mad at me or get me grounded. My sister’s too young to know what to do so I guess it’s up to me. Please help me.

Werner Michael answers:

Umm, he only smokes a pack a day. That isn’t very much, and he is only 41. It is a bad sign that his twin died, and you say from smoking. But there isn’t an emergency. He will live for many more years, and will probably stop on his own in a few years. So quit nagging him now, and instead, try to enjoy your time with him. He will die eventually, of course, everyone does, so the best thing to do is to build the best memories of him you can.

You did the right thing by trying to inhale his smoke and telling him that you will start smoking. Since he smokes, the odds are improved that you will become a smoker, probably soon. When you do, you will understand much better why he enjoys it so much and the fact that he smokes won’t bother you any more!
