Sandy asks…

Is it safe to use these stop smoking aids together?

Is it safe to use the nicotene patch and supplement it with the nicotene gum or lozenges? I thought you could not, but on a local news channel they said a study shows using these in combination leads to more success than some methods such as using each alone. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Werner Michael answers:

Hi daddysred..

Actually the old school was just to use one nrt, at a time.. It is possible to damage your heart by Too much nicotine..i too have heard that possibly, the combination wasn’t as bad as previously thought..but as the other contributor noted.. Best err on the side of caution..

One thing that is well known is that participation in a support group can improve your chances of quitting dramatically.. Im a member of nicotine anonymous, and attend meetings both locally, and on line..on line meetings are as close as computer.. And you attend while planning a quit, before actually quitting..

However yu decide to proceed good luck.. There is simply no wrong way to quit..

John asks…

Stop smoking aids, which ones to use?

I’ve been smoking for awhile. I tried the patches and gum with no results and a lot less money in the end. I’m going to see my doctor about maybe a prescription stop smoking aid. Does anyone know of any names so I can read up on them? Thanks!

Werner Michael answers:

If you go to the doctor they will no doubt prescribe Chantix. I have heard so many horror stories about this medication that I can not believe that people would even suggest it as an option.

Chantix has many side effects, as the people who answered you have testified. These include nausea (30%), sleep problems (insomnia, nightmares, strange & vivid dreams), constipation, gas and vomiting.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Most companies who sell quit smoking aids admit to this on their websites. They say to use their products in conjunction with a psychological support program. Why? Because without one the chances of quitting are greatly reduced. In reality the psychological program does most of the work. The quit smoking aids are more of a helping hand and are often unnecessary.

Chris asks…

Will the same stop smoking aids work for people who dip snuff?

Werner Michael answers:

People that dip snuff are a different breed of people – they feel they are invincible & that dipping snuff won’t cause cancer of the mouth, tongue, throat, lungs, pancreatic cancer, etc. And, over a period of time it will affect a guy’s penis & reproductive system. They don’t think snuff is tobacco & it is not harmful. But, in the end, it will be too late. Bummer.

Joseph asks…

Stop Smoking Aids and programs?

Looking for ways to stop smoking aids and programs. How stop smoking aids can help you become a successful non-smoker?

Werner Michael answers:

Stop smoking aids can help you become a successful non-smoker, if you tried to quit time and time again, to no avail. Here is the list of popular stop smoking aides available:

1. Chantix (Varenicline) is an FDA approved medication that has helped thousands of people quit smoking.

2. Alternative therapies such as hypnosis and acupuncture remain somewhat controversial, but are slowly breaking in as adjunct therapy to mainstream medicine.

3. Nicotine Replacement Therapy available in many forms, including nasal spray, lozenges, chewing gum and the trans-dermal patch.

4. Zyban (Wellburtrin, Bupropion) is a drug that was initially used to treat depression. Somewhere along the line, however, it was found that Zyban also helped reduce cravings associated with nicotine withdrawal.

Carol asks…

Question about Stop-Smoking Aids?

Are stop smoking aids (particularly Commit, the nicotine lozenge) harmful to you in any way? I quit smoking, but really miss it. To me, it seems that the nicotine lozenges are a healthy alternative since I don’t believe nicotine itself is a carcinogen.

Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

Werner Michael answers:

Screw that, it costs too much.

Just keep smoking
