Robert asks…

I know this is bad. smoking while pregnant?

I’m addicted to smoking im now 7 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. I stopped cold with my first… But i had him 7 weeks early.. My doc thought it could have been me quiting like i did. My second i smoked through and had a healthy 8 pound baby boy.. This one tho i want to quit again.. Im trying to slow down.. can anyone help on ideas to quit? It is really making me upset thinking that i cant. ive been a smoker for 14 years.. And i know i know it’s awful..

Werner Michael answers:

My Dr. Told me not to quit. Quitting causes stress and will harm the
baby. So I cut back to 5-7 a day. The result. 3 pregnancies, 3 big
and healthy babies. Between 8.11 oz and 7.9 oz. All because I listened to my Dr. His advice benefited my children.

Lisa asks…

smoking pot while pregnant?

i am 34 weeks with my first. i was a heavy everyday pot smoker before i found out i pregnant and then stopped completely until about 2 months ago i would take a hit or two every other day, to help with upset stomach. i am wondering about when i deliver if anything will happen? i have heard many different stories. one of my friends smoked pot everyday she was pregnant and never said that at the hospital or doctor if they did anything and she has her baby. my other friend went to the local clinic her whole pregnancy and the said that if they find any drugs in her system there were going to be problems. now i know my private doc has prob seen the thc in my system but has not said anything, unless it is so little it does not come up on a pee test or if they don’t even test for it. and i have also heard that at the hospital after you deliver if there is drugs in you or baby system they send in social worker to talk with you and maybe to your house afterwards. anyone smoked pot while pregnant? what happend at the hospital after birth, or did doc say anything to you at any appts?
thank you svetka, i was expecting to get a lot of judgemental answers

Werner Michael answers:

People/Doctors/Idiots can say what they want…but there have been NO studies that link any sort of abnormality or deficit in children whose mother’s smoked pot before or during their pregnancy. I have done MUCH research on this subject for essays, presentations and my own curiousity. I used to be a hardcore smoker, but I quit even before I got pregnant. My opinion on it is that you shouldn’t be putting anything in your body that you don’t want your baby partaking in. I did take one or two hits in the beginning, but felt bad because I just pictured my little fetus taking hits along with me! Plus brain development during certain weeks is the main thing going on, so I want to be in optimal brain/baby growing health. And also, I didn’t want my Doc’s finding out (dont know if they could or would but….) I haev read some reports that it may lead to behavioral problems later on, or colic. So, I’d stay quit now, just so you’re absolutely sure you’ll have that perfect lil baby that you’re hoping for! But no, nothing will happen at birth or anything like that. Just quit now, and wait until much later to start up again. Don’t do it when you breastfeed, don’t do it if you’re baby is awake, or even still a baby! But congrats and good luck my dear.

*Wow, just read the other answers. Marijuana is a natural plant, people. It depends on the people who use it. You have to have a sense of reality and self-control, but it doesn’t always have to be bad. Cigarettes are legal, aren’t they? Coffee is more addictive than marijuana everyone, it’s a fact! Get over it, and don’t judge. It’s not like she’s snorting up crack.

I was smoking a pack a day and they were full flavored know i smoke a lot less and there lights,i,m trying so hard to quit but damn its hard i know the precautions and all i think about is the baby i don’t want to try that nicotine stuff cause it don’t work anyway so how did you stop,or how did it go when you had your baby and you smoked can anyone give me any thing in order to help me stop smoking?? thank you for reading and answering and not yelling at me

Werner Michael answers:

I have had 3 healthy girls and I smoked with all of them. I cut back a lot when I was preg…like you I was smoking full flavor then switched to lights and was only smoking about 5 cigarettes a day and all of my kids were born healthy. I am currently 22 weeks preg. With my fourth and all is well so far with this one too. I feel so bad also thinking about all the things they say about smoking during preg. And I want to quit…but man…I have a 4yo, 3yo, and a 20 month old…it’s stressful and it’s hard. I hate the fact that I smoke…and I hate that people think they need to put in the their 2 cents and say “you shouldn’t be doing that.” but I totally understand where you are coming from. My sister quit cold turkey with both of hers and I have no idea how she did it. But like I said…all of my children were perfectly healthy and still are!! Good Luck to ya and don’t be too hard on yourself…it’s very difficult to quit!!

George asks…

quiting smoking while pregnant?

Quiting was easy during my first pregnancy as just the smell of it would make me sick. I started again 2 weeks after my twins were born (one of the stupidest things I ever did). This time round it is not making me sick and I am having a hard time giving it up. I have cut back a lot. I was smoking half a pack a day now having about 5 a day. I feel so guilty that I don’t have the will power to quit. I try to just not buy them but my husband is also a smoker. He is being very supportive and trying to give them up too but one of use always seems to cave in and go and buy a pack. Any pointers for giving them up?

Please don’t tell me how bad it is for me and the baby as I already know I just need help to stop.
Love my angel and mommy to be. If you don’t have any real advice bugger off. I don’t need you to add to the guilt I already feel. I obviously love my unborn baby enough as I am trying to quit and quit during my last pregnancy. If I didn’t care then I would still be smoking half a pack a day.

Werner Michael answers:

Someone I know used to imagine their little baby having a puff on a cigarette whenever she felt like a smoke. That put her off and she quit. Another thing to do is put cigarette butts into a jar with some water, when you feel like a smoke take the lid off and have a sniff of the contents, apparently its supposed to make you feel sick. Good luck, I smoked until I got pregnant and managed to give up easily but it wouldn’t be that easy for everyone I know.
