You should have stopped before getting pregnant but if it wasn’t planned then I would suggest you cut down. Take a smoke out a day till your not smoking at all. Good Luck!

Jenny asks…
what can i do to stop smoking while pregnant?
I feel awful! I’m 11 weeks and I can’t stop smoking…I want to quit so bad for the health of my baby! Of course I have cut down A LOT!! But I want to quit completely asap…I also know stress isn’t good and I’m scared if I quit I will go through withdraw…I go to my dr tuesday is there anything she can prescribe me to help or can I not take those medicines while pregnant?? Any advice or expierences would be great…I feel like I’m negleting my child I have to quit!!

Werner Michael answers:
My Dr. Told me not to quit. Quitting causes stress and will harm the
baby. So I cut back to 5-7 a day. The result. 3 pregnancies, 3 big
and healthy babies. All because I listened to my Dr. His advice
benefited my children.

Mandy asks…
My girl wont stop smoking while pregnant..??!!!!?
Hey everyone.
My situation is that my girl is pregnant with my first child and im super excited..(however this is not her first)
she was a heavy smoker when we met and myself also, so when she fell pregnant i totally understood why it was hard for her to just stop, and she promised me that she will cut down and eventually stop at 3 months.
anyway she is now almost 5 months and still smoking. i have expressed to her i understand its hard to stop but i cant sit around and watch her smoke my baby’s health away. i asked her honestly, ‘if she doesnt want to quit just tell me so i can stop naggin her’ but she swore to me she wud stop…
then i find out she had been lying about not smoking so naturally i went mad
i threatened to leave if she doesnt stop because it honestly does pain me to think what cud happen to my baby…
she says she cares bout the bby, but then i dont understand why she wont quit as she quit straight away with her other child…
i just want to know if im over-reacting or if it wud be wrong for me to leave her over this cos i cant take it much more
what should i do? allow her to smoke or really put my foot down..?
plz help….

Werner Michael answers:
I am pregnant and due shortly and i spoke with my doctor about helping me quit and she said that i cant chew nicorette because it causes the blood vessels to constrict, the best thing to do is to cut back, and leaving her isnt going to help anything that will only make it worse because it will add more stress to her and the baby, the best advice i can give is to be gentle with her because nagging will only make her want to do it more because you are stressing her out. What i did was set out 3 cigarettes a day, and bought a water bottle and those dum dum sucker’s, because they keep your hands busy by holding the stick and then you can suck on them like a cigarrette, but drinking lots of water really helps too. Make sure its a squeeze bottle like they use in sports that way she can get bigger gulps, making it less tedious and lukewarm water is easier to swallow than ice- cold water. Also you shouldnt smoke around her or in the house at ALL becasue if she is trying to quit and sees you smoking she will want one. My husband smokes and i had to tell him to go outside and not do it in the car. Get her candy bubblegum and water and dont let her see you smoking, see ashtrays, or see packs of cigarrettes lying around. Tell her that you know she cant just up and quit like that and offer to agree on three or four a day to start off and tell her to only smoke half of it at a time, that way she is getting to curve the craving a little bit at a time and eventually she wont need as much of a cigarrette at each time she smokes my husband ended up finding half cigarrets everywhere because soon i didnt want the whole thing. So, three cigs a day, half a cig each time she smokes, and she will feel like she is smoking at least six to eight times a day which is enough to curb it and eventually she wont even want to. But make sure to keep water and candy around and cleaning or keeping busy helps too.

Stop smoking help while pregnant?
I am almost 4 months pregnant. I’ve cut down to about a half a pack of light cigarettes a day. I need help to quit all the way. Anyone have any advice???

Werner Michael answers:
Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop – then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It’s just so easy to start thinking that just one won’t hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don’t have just one. Beware – alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here’s a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It’s not just nicotine addiction – there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as ‘my body needs something’, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these ‘my body needs something’ sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming – nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the ‘want something’ feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we’ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.
After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.

Smoking while pregnant? Know it’s not smart, help please?
Do any of you have ideas on stopping smoking cigarettes while pregnant? I’m having a really really hard time, and I’m 14 weeks along. I’m having a hard time cutting back even. I smoked over a pack a day (Way back from that now,I don’t do that anymore) when I had my daughter, and she was a healthy 7 lb 7 oz baby. No lung problems. I just want advice on ways to cut back/quit,anyone else have the same problem? NO RUDE ANWERS,if you have a rude answer about how stupid I am or whatever,It will be reported,I’m just looking for advice.

Werner Michael answers:
I too am a smoker and I talked to my doctor about this. I used to smoke a pack a day but now I am about a half a pack a day. My doctor is very pleased with that.
She did tell me, back when I was 9 weeks pregnant that in my 2nd trimester there is a pill that the doctor can prescribe and it is safe to take while pregnant to quit smoking. That is definitely something you could ask your doctor about.
Overall, I want to quit too. However, my doctor said it isn’t going to harm a baby like everyone makes it out to be. I don’t want to do it, but the babies do come out just fine.
I hope this helps!

Linda asks…
Smoking while pregnant?
Okay so I have been a smoker since I was 13, and now I’m 18 I’m 14 weeks and 1 day pregnant, I use to smoke 5-8 cigarettes a day and I cut down to only 2, my friend said trying to quit cold turkey will actually stress me out and baby way, she said me cutting down is actually alot better then me smoking how much I use too, so I’m wondering is it seriously major on my pregnancy if I cut down 2 from 5-8 cigarettes a day? My fiance is freaking out telling me to stop smoking, while hes still smoking! I want to quit smoking but with him smoking it makes it way harder on me trying to quit, anyways someone help me with this question.

Werner Michael answers:
I smoked a half a pack a day for 2 years. When I got pregnant, I quit the day I found out. I snapped all of my cigarettes in half and tossed them. Anytime I had a craving, I just imagined lighting up a cigarette and putting it right in my baby’s mouth and that helped me get through it. It didn’t put me under too much stress, and my doctor encouraged me to quit promptly.
ETA: Your fiance should quit too. It helps if you quit together. My husband was a junk food eater (which I know is nowhere near as bad as smoking) but when I started quitting smoking, he gave up junk food, and we quit something together. It really helped.

Sharon asks…
Stopping smoking marijuana and second hand marijuana smoke while pregnant.?
I’m currently 26 weeks pregnant and I smoked pot everyday until today. I made the decision to quit smoking for my child. I have an addictive personality which didn’t help me stop smoking when I found out I was expecting and there’s no support around me to stop. My boyfriend smokes everyday and when I asked him to quit with me he said that he’s not pregnant why should he have to quit and that was kind of the end of that. He kept lighting up and offering it to me and I was stupid and took it. I know I messed up big time but I’m changing, I will NEVER smoke pot again. I’m going to be a mother, I should start acting like one.
Anyways what should I do to get the THC out of my system as fast as possible. I know I shouldn’t use detoxing kits or anything because they flush out vitamins the baby needs. Do I just drink a butt load of water? Cranberry and blueberry juice? What else?
Also, my boyfriend won’t quit smoking so is the second hand smoke going to be in my system strong enough to cause them to take away the baby when it’s born? I won’t sit right next to him when he smokes, I’ll be across the room or in another room all together.
I’ve already told him that if he doesn’t either stop smoking or take his smoking habit somewhere else when the baby gets here I’m going to move in with my parents and take the baby with me. We’ll see if he does or not…
I know I’m going to get a bunch of scoldings for posting this, but if you can’t see I feel bad, understand what I’ve been doing is wrong, and want to change my ways then whatever. At least I’m woman enough to come out and say it all like it is and admit I’ve been stupid. All I need is advice on how to get it out of my system and keep it out of my system. Thank you.

Werner Michael answers:
If your boyfriend won’t quit smoking, you two should discuss where and when it’s “okay” for him to smoke. If you have a garage, that’d be great. Bathroom with a good vent?
I believe that the second hand smoke will still show up in your system if he’s smoking in the same room as you.
Now, about the question of if it will cause the baby to be taken away..
Never, outside of this website, have I heard of babies or their mother’s being drug tested at birth. I wasn’t on anything, but I know I wasn’t tested when my daughter was born, and my sister, who certainly was on drugs during two of her pregnancies (no, I don’t condone, but she is an example) was never tested either. I have not known, personally, ANYONE who was tested, or whose newborn was tested for drugs at the time of birth.
I’m just sayin’…
Congratulations on stopping smoking (anything), and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I understand the WEED isn’t addictive. It’s ME that’s the problem. Hence the mention of the addictive personality. My whole family is that way, my parents, aunt, both my uncles, and grandmother are ALL alcoholics. That kind of behavior is just in my family. Genetically programed or something.
I was able to avoid the alcohol for fear of becoming like all of them. They are very successful in life, but they have a big drinking problem that affects them emotionally. I didn’t want to be that.

Werner Michael answers:
Obviously you see it was stupid so there’s no point in everyone here telling you how bad it was. I wouldn’t worry about flushing it out of your system only because you’ve smoked this long, it’s not going to hurt for it to be in your system the next few days. If you still are concerned about flushing it out, I’m sure alot of water would help. Also, secondhand smoke is just as bad as you smoking yourself. If he’s not in this with you, I would end the relationship. When the baby’s born, it definitely doesn’t need to be around the smoke. Good luck.
