Your Questions About Help To Stop Smoking When Pregnant

William asks…
I stopped smoking once how can i stop again?
I stopped smoking when i found out i was pregnant the first time i lost this child and i started again i do have a daughter and i want to give up because of her and her health. I dont smoke in the house i smoke away from the house and wash when i finish HElP i want support not help from a organisation who just give pamphlets

Werner Michael answers:
Do you think you may have started again because of the loss you had? You can stop by your will. I never understood what it was to be addicted to anything until I could not stop drinking coke-cola. I could then relate in a big way, but smoking is so dangerous not only to you but to everyone else around you. It is very good that you do it out of the house and wash after you are done. Do you want to become pregnant again? If you do, you should stop ahead of time. Maybe smoking in the first place could have had a very small part in the loss. I too lost a baby in the early months of pregnancy. When the sac fell into the toilet water and I saw that little thing I had such a change go through me. I had more drive to make everything possible that I could. Every time you want to light up just think of another child that you can raise, a sibling for the one you have now, your own health in the fact that if you continue smoking you are only hurting your own health which in return will hurt your family by having them loose you early and then not have you to lean on. I know this sounds goofy, but it is worth a try. Your mind and will are a very powerful thing and you can overcome this. I wish you the very best.

smoking & 5 months pregnant and not showing.?
i am 22 weeks pregnant.! & just untill recently i suffered from real bad dehydration and 24/7 nausea. from when i found out i was pregnant i stopped smoking. but after i had this dehydration and nausea weed seems to be he only thing that helps. it helps me get an apatite. when i first found out i was pregnant till about last month i lost a total of 30 pounds. but since i started smoking again i gained at least 20 pounds back. i just tryed stopping again and i just felt sick everytime i would get up or think about food. :/ so im just gonna try and slowly quit and try and get through this.! but im also not showing which is the point of this question.! im thinking maybe since i smoke my baby aint growing and thats why im not showing. :/ i feel him move all the time not big moves but little waves it feels like
they are starting to get strong. and i talked about this with my dr. and he said there should be nothing to worrie about he looks healthy the heartbeats strong. please help.!

Werner Michael answers:
It is not the best decision for you to be smoking while you are pregnant, and smoking weed can cause respiratory problems and lead to a smaller baby. If you are having nausea and dehydration, you need to drink lots of water, especially at night. For nausea, eat small meals throughout the day and try to avoid any fried or spicy foods. If you still feel nauseated, you can try munching on some salty crackers, taking one of your TUMS, or lying down. The movements you feel are normal as this is your first pregnancy. Good luck

How to stop smoking….when the world is such a crappy place?
My whole life has been hell! There is no American dream. If your parents are middle class..no scollorships are avail for college. then you join the military. and you mom starts saying get pregnant on purpose..but you do the right thing and dont’. Then you give up signing another 4 and give up your career to go to your husbands next base overseas. Then he divorces you… and PEOPLE not all white women end up with more from divorce I ended up poorer. My credit was bad, I had no kid because he said he wasn’t ready the whole 8 yrs. Then you move somewhere, get little pay being a women, then home owners screw you with your deposit and dont’ keep their word!!! Jobs dont’ give you as many opportunities because they think somethings wrong with you you dont’ have a kid. and kid jobs turn you down you don’t have one. Then more abusive guys enter your life begging you and fooling you to get you with them bad! because they know you have no family or money to leave them so they want you more. Then you suffer abuse. Then you work your ass off to get away. but he’ll come and try to ruin your job! meanwhile your mom is saying get preg. on purpose when are you going to aren’t you poor enough when you stay at the homeless shelter to leave him… and you still do the right thing and don’t get pregnant! Then you dont’ get the stimulus check last yr. because you didn’t make enough money. But you got no help from the state that yr (food stamps or unemployement) but somehow you survived and you dont’ get one! then this yr. you dont’ get one because you have a full time job and made more then last.
This yr. for taxes….only home owners, and people with kids get money. More then likely the people who already have great credit get more….how is this going to help????
Meanwhile the girls living their lives right…. get screwed! Are these the people the Goverment really want to reward the people with homes who chose to get a large house out of their means… and the women who have babies right away… is this who my tax money goes to…??
Great. And people wonder why I started smoking.
I just started a yr. ago at 29yrs old my first…and I would quit if I had a kid or my life ever got better… but it’s sucked and I’ve worked my ass off since high school and haven’t got anywhere.
Looking around at everyone, who’s made it and didn’t try as hard as me/or go into the military, or who didn’t even want kids and has one…is too hard. or people who get help from their parents and blow it on partying. and I’m stuggling to live, to save to leave someone abusive. I hate poeple who get help from parents and spend it on drugs. If only I was so lucky I really couldve been something..or been somewhere by now in my life.
REPLY: I know how to quit, just think of something happy and ideal place and if you got there…and were able to have your perfect ending to your life.. but you had to quit. then it’d be worth it! so think happy thoughts. like your ideal, kick ass you.! For me it’s, I’d be allot sexier if my dream guy saw me…w/out a cigerette in my hand. thoughts then I can quit for a few days. until something bad luck happens then I light up again. life’s hard. good luck. thanks for your answers

im 27 weeks pregnant and really worried about my weight…please help!?
just before i found out i was pregnant i moved 200 miles away from my family 2 b with my partner i was stressed and comfort ate. as soon as i found out i was pregnant i stopped smoking- i went from 20 a day 2 nothing. we had problems with my partners mum so i comfort ate even more after she tried to split us up n take over. i dnt no any1 or where anything is and find it hard to meet new ppl, i also dont work so needless to say the only exercise i get is from house work. i stopped being silly with my eating and really cut down and now very rarely eat junk food, but when i weighted myself i found that i now weigh 17 st 3lbs…i have put on nearly 3 stone and im only 27 weeks pregnant!! my midwife hasnt weighed me and hasnt even mentioned my weight, i guess cos i dont look like i weigh that much. i know i cant diet n theres nufin i can do about it, i dot care bout losing weight after, but im so scared i am hurtin my baby, my partner knowin n breaking the hospital bed. plz help me!!!

Werner Michael answers:
Its hard being in a new place with all that has happened. Am glad u have tried to turn urself around before its too late. But let me assure u that u are not hurting ur baby in any way, and that hospital beds are designed for people millions of times heavier than u.
Am also a comfort eater and keeping a diary of what i am feeling as i eat helps me to differentiate between true hunger & comfort eating. If i am i ask myself what the problem is and how to solve it. Usually find i don’t need the food after all.
Exercise by swimming, walking or gentle aerobics. This is also a great way to interact with people and make friends while keeping the weight under control

A few drug related, smoking related and SIDS related questions.?
I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks. In the month I got pregnant I did cocaine and smoked marijuana, drank alcohol and smoked apprx 5 cigs a day. When I found out I was pregnant I stopped drinking, cut down on smoking greatly and stopped the drugs. I have had scans that say everything looks normal, she is a good size with no visible defects internally and externally, I stopped smoking completley at apprx 8 weeks and have only had about 2-3 since. I was just wondering whether anybody else had done anything like this? Of course I regret it and if I’d known I was to get pregnant that month I wouldn’t have partyd so hard! And also, are there special machines that help prevent sids by going off IF the baby should stop breathing? Being my first baby I am absolutley paranoid.
Thanks for any answers given.

Werner Michael answers:
There is no medicine that can prevent SIDS, what you can do to prevent it is make sure that when you put your baby in their crib to sleep, make sure the mattress is firm enough, there are no quilts or pillows or stuffed animals- only the baby.
Also, I took a child psych class that had a question just like this and the answer was that the baby would be fine because the mother quit smoking and didn’t drink or do drugs anymore. My teacher also said that within the first weeks it doesn’t do as much damage as later on in the pregnancy.
However, smoking throughout your pregnancy will cause the baby to have asthma. My friend’s mom did that and he has asthma because of it, and so did my mom and I also have severe asthma.

Werner Michael answers:
When i found out i was pregnant (with my second baby) i still had around 4-6 smokes a day (i usually smoked around 20) – but i gradually went down to around 3 smokes a day when i was 5 weeks pregnant, then by six weeks i had morning sickness so bad that i had to quit cause they made me sick!! I havent smoked a cigarette since!! I still cant even kiss my husband if he has just had a smoke, and i hate having smoke around me when we sit outside – i am NEVER smoking again cause morning sickness made it so damn easy to quit
However, with my first baby, i am sad to say i still smoked around 1-3 smokes per week once my morning sickness stopped – my son was born a healthy 9 pound and is a very smart, active and healthy 29 month old – i regret every smoking while pregnant and taking it back up fulltime once he was around two months old. One of my closest friends smoked around a packet a day throughout her whole pregnancy and while breastfeeding for 18 months and her little girl is SOOO small – its so sad
Gradually cut down over the next few weeks so you dont stress yourself out too much as the first 12 weeks of pregnancy are the most important
I know its really tough but you can do it

Richard asks…
How can I get my mom to stop smoking?
My mother has been smoking ever since she was 14 years old. She’s tried to quit a number of times, but unfortunately her efforts have always been futile and within a week of refraining from smoking she gives in. I’m really worried about my mom’s health; she is always getting sick (which I know is from smoking because it lowers your immune system), she is extremely under weight and she never exercises but it’s too hard for her due to her smoking. What I am really worried about is the possibility of her getting lung cancer or emphysema and dying. I try to tell her that she really needs to stop and that I love her and she does want to quit but she always gives me the same answer: “You just don’t understand.” Me? I don’t understand? I do and I am completely aware of how hard it is to quit. Lately she has been smoking every 8 to 10 minutes. During this time of the season her father died last year and it makes her really depressed so I need to find the right time to approach her about the subject without upsetting her. This is also the reason why she has been smoking so often. What really disgusts me is that she smoked when she was pregnant with me and she actually told that to my face like she was bragging. Despite what she did, I love her and I don’t want to see her suffering anymore. Please help! What do I need to do?
please be serious. Oh and Angelina X, go F**k yourself

Werner Michael answers:
I have the EXACT same problem with my mom. She’s a hardcore smoker. My uncle (her cousin) even died of lung cancer around his forties (he was also an avid smoker) and that didn’t stop her. Me and my sisters have tried confronting my mom about this several times, and she gets really defensive about it. She says that for some people it’s almost impossible to quit. And I believe her in that, because my mom is hands-down the strongest, most ambitious and hardworking person I have ever met. She can accomplish everything she sets her mind to– except for this. It must be really tough. She has also attempted to quit multiple times, only to fail miserably a few days later.
The best you could do is continue to let her know that you love her and that you care about her. It might not make her quit, but it may give her some peace of mind. There isn’t really much you can do about it, it’s really up to your mom. Everyone nowadays knows the consequences of uncontrollable smoking, and she already knows everyone she loves wants her to quit for her sake. I guess some people are more affected by the addictive effects of nicotine than others…
