Your Questions About Help To Stop Smoking Cannabis

John asks…

My son wants to stop smoking cannabis after 15 years! Can he get help from his GP?

As above my son wants to quit smoking cannabis after 15 years which we are so pleased about. Can he get help from his local GP?

Werner Michael answers:

There are 3 aspects of addiction and he will need support for all three. There is the mental aspect of facing the world everyday without cannibis in his system, dealing with the strss head on with no buffers. He is going to need mental health support, whatever he is comfortable with. It may be as simple as talking to friends, it may be something more formal.
Biochemical and behavioral (since these are intertwined)- If he wants to quit, another thing he is going to have to do is to break the dopamine loop of his habit.. Studies have shown that once a substance or even activity becomes a habit (for better or worse, biochemically as long as there is a reward for a behavior, he will get a squirt of dopamine and thusly reinforce the behavior ( you know, the feel good stuff produced by the body, and in this case he is getting dopamine and THC.). His own body has been reinforcing the behavior by giving him a squirt of dopamine at the anticipation of/ or completion of that behavior (in this case smoking pot). Go here:

What he needs to do is to find a reward for NOT smoking pot. It can be exercise, or anything that he enjoys other than smoking. The secret is replacing the habit with a healtheir one. A Psychaitrist or psychologist may be more appropriate to help with this.

As for a GP, his lungs may need to be checked to make sure he isn’t suffering from any lung disease. Smoking is smoking no matter what the substance in the pipe or paper is…

Ruth asks…

How do i help my friend stop smoking cannabis?

Its getting him down, and i want to help him i just don’t know what i should do? :-(

Werner Michael answers:

He needs to do this for himself, seriously. Narcotics Anonymous. The thing that you can do is not to condone it. Don’t allow it, and don’t approve of or accept him using it. Its not easy to do.

Maria asks…

I need to stop smoking Cannabis?

I smoke everyday the main reason Im deciding to stop is due to the strength that we are getting it. Its weekend ruining and thats the running joke for us all (and we are all habitual smokers) I feel better without it but it is very hard to abstain. I think the fact that I have done it since a young age really makes the old routine hard to break. Any help would be great. I know I can do this I just need that push like we all do.

Werner Michael answers:

I disagree with the weaning… I tried it… It did not work.

I am 108 days sober now and the ONLY way i was able to escape the hell of drugs was a detox (you won’t need detox if you are solely using cannabis) and in-patient treatment. I left behind all of my old ‘friends’ because they were not supportive of my decisions… If your friends are, that is great. If they respect you, they will support you and not throw it in your face

Werner Michael answers:

Stop smoking cannabis if you are fed up with it. Make the decision right now to stop smoking cannabis! Don’t hesitate or delay. The very first thing you must do is decide why you are giving it all up. Are you giving up because someone keeps nagging you to? Are you stopping because your Doctor has told you so? Well, ignore everyone else’s opinions and make up your own mind. You won’t stop if you don’t want to. You will stop if you do want to. It really is that simple. So make the decision.

Set a date to quit smoking marijuana. This is important. Some people might be able to decide straight away, others might need time to digest more information. Whatever you do it, make sure you end up setting a date to quit and stick to it no matter what. Write it out and put it somewhere you will see it often, put it on a yellow sticky note, write it on your computers screen saver, do whatever it takes to remember the date and remember it often.

Jenny asks…

Help to stop smoking cannabis.?

I have to start a new job soon which will involve taking a drugs test. Can anyone tell me how quick I can detox myself ( other than abstaining – what can I use)in order to guarentee a negative drug test. Yes I have given up smoking, all of 2 days. I’d like to keep it up for good and detox myself at the same time. How long does cannabis stay in your system for?. How far back will a urine test detect me smoking, days eeks, months?

Werner Michael answers:

Depends… Can be as long as a few months… Go to a nutritional store… There are special drinks u can take that clean out your system!

George asks…

is it possible to repair the bad effects of smoking cannabis on the brain now i have stopped smoking it?

if i add up all the days where i have smoked cannabis it totals to about 9 months as i have had periods of stopping and then starting again. i have now stopped smoking it, now i want to find out if my brain can ever repair itself? i have noticed that my short term memory is now really bad sometimes, does any body know if it can ever go back to its normal self? or ways to help? thanks.

Werner Michael answers:

Hi, I use to smoke a lot of marijuana, in total about a year and half eight times per day everyday, my brain was still 16 which means it was still growing. When you smoke it obviously kills many braincells which is the cause of memory loss, When I had to go back to school I had forgotten almost everything that I learnt when I was at school, also I cannot remember what I did when I smoked pot, only the bad experiences, which sucks. But ive been clean for a year and four months now and just recently i can pay better attention in class and I remember more things. The older you get the more braincells you lose, so if you are older now then you cannot get the braincells back that you lost. Lol, it sounds so stupid, but I think it’s true. Anyway, Eat Cod liver oil, atleast a spoon a day, it’s quite tasty, the fish oils helps with memory and etc etc. Also exercise atleast an hour a day since it betters your thinking and memory. Eat lots of healthy foods and drink 2 litres of water a day. Dont use anti depressants, that shit is no good. And find activities that excersize your mind.
Good Luck:)

Mandy asks…

How do I convince my girlfriend to stop smoking cigs and cannabis?

Me and my gf have been dating for 3 months, she’s 14, I’m only 17. We get along perfect. I weigh about 138, she weighs about 125, and she’s been smoking cigs since she was about 13, and marijuana for about a year. She smokes cigarettes because it helps her lose weight. Not to mention she is bulemic, and purges at least once a week. However she hasn’t really made a difference, only like 5 lbs if she works hard for 2 weeks. I’ve told her that being bulemic is very dangerous and she shouldn’t continue. I have told her that she should run a half mile with me every day for a month, and that would help, and I belive that would be the best possible thing to help her in all aspects with the smoking and stuff. I understand she’s 14, and may not abide with me, but what can I do to help her lose the weight she wants to lose?

Thanks.

Werner Michael answers:

There is nothing you can do for someone else. You can only take care of yourself. She makes her own choices and will live with her own decisions. The only thing you can do is feel sorry for her until she come to realize what she is doing to her own body . . Until than make sure that you remain healthy and strong and don’t fall into the same bad habits she is choosing. You may want to look for someone with more maturity who cares about their health.
